Crapness is forgivable. Lack of effort however.

The main issue with PVA is he tries to get forward and since Sakho is out he has no one to keep him in check.

When he does then lose the ball (being unable to use his right foot), there is no effort to get back at all.

However (and most infuriatingly) is that he is an utter wimp. Turning your back on a shot possibly forgivable but closing your eyes to head a sodding football is unforgivable!

Turning your back on a shot is criminal. You're effectively jumping out of the way. Hate seeing this, although there have been some high profile offenders over the years (Rio Ferdinand). John Terry was brave in this respect though.

PvA has always been good enough at defending when receiving orders. Left to his own devices he seems to have no positional sense and makes bad decisions. Like someone else said, he looked much better alongside Sakho. Coincidence or not he also seems to have been worse since Schlupp came in. If I was the opposition I would just target our left all game as Wilf tracks back sporadically, Schlupp only runs when going forward and plays too narrow and PvA seems to lack the ability to make up for the lack of support. As good as AWB has been he also gets far more defensive support from Townsend and McArthur.

So we all agree he can be a good player for us but just needs to pull his thumb out and socks up.

Shame Souare almost killed himself, he would have filled that spot perfectly with his pace and wicked crosses ....for Benteke (that was what I imagined would happen)

He's had a poor season. He use to link up with Wilf brilliantly down the left hand side now he just sits back and doesn't track back like he use to. Maybe he's not been fully fit?

This statement is accurate for almost any defender in the land.

I stick by my statement. His strength is supposed to be attacking however he has offered very little in this respect this year. His weakness we all know is defending, so if you can’t defend and you are doing little up front then he isn’t offering a lot and it is hardly absurd.

I used to work with a makem, he was well chuffed when we signed PVA as he said he was crap at defending and only ok going forward...alas it appears he’s been proved right

Defending has never been his best attribute, which for a full-back is perhaps not good. He is best when attacking - however Roy's boring tactics means he's not allowed past the half-way line until the game is lost (normally after about 75 mins). Nor does it help when he has Schlupp in front of him who constantly loses possession, and the untouchable Zaha who normally fails to track back and help.

Wow, you've managed to slag off 3 players and the manager in 1 go - well done !

I don't agree that PVA is only allowed into the oppositions half until late in games. Perhaps you notice him getting forward more as the game get's stretched in the later stages.

Actual stats show PVA 6th best Palace goal scorer, not bad for someone who is not allowed past the halfway line.

And there was i thinking that PVA was the glue that held our defence together.
