I'm with your dad on this one,although I only remember the more famous players. My dad(RIP) supported Palace from the time they played at the Herne Hill Cycle track and had a fantastic memory for past players.

Exactly, got to be positive. Add Townsend and Wickham to that ship-out list and there's potential to build a more balanced, ball playing squad. Maybe even force management to promote one or two of the kids: we wouldn't have found AWB if injuries hadn't forced RH to play him.

I'd be sorry to see AWB go because he's a real talent, but we should expect to do well out of his sale.

1. Shares open to buy. Meaningless. Newcastle have been for sale for years.

2. I’m not sure Wilf loves playing this style for the team, and therein lies the issue.

4. Reasonable track record of identifying good Premiership players at low cost? Seriously? We’ve been a joke in the transfer market apart from Pulis and partly Allardyce unless we overpay out of a Panini album, when have we really found anyone cheaper than value or intuitively? This time we’ve signed a keeper who doesn’t like leaving his line and cannot catch the ball in the air, Meyer who itsxlike Parish signed on reputation but Roy doesn’t want him, and Kouyate, who doesn’t play, but can actually carry the ball forward. Our transfer policy is poor and lacks joined up thinking.

5. Reasonable track record for t bringing youth through the academy? 2 players in 10 years, one of whom only happened because Roy was forced to, otherwise he could be playing for the Wombles now.

6. Which Premiership side wouldn't suffer if they got relegated? Nearly all of our players would have to go and the playing philosophy would take ages to change, so we’d suffer very badly, and by the time we sorted ourselves out we’d be midtable at best.

I was thinking about this the other day so decided to remind myself of clubs transfers this season. I must say it made me feel a lot better about our recent transfers record.

Ignoring the top 6 when you look at expenditure/transfers that have made an impact I'd say the following:

Overachieved/great season: Watford

Underachieved at quite a cost: Fulham, Brighton, Huddersfield, Southampton and perhaps Bournemouth.

All other clubs IMO have pretty much done as expected in regards to overall spending taking into account existing squad size/ strength.

Now two of thoe have obviosly been relegated and surely keeping FFP in mind the others can't afford another big outlay this summer.

So at worst I think we've done OK this year after spending little and have gone some way to rebalancing the books after the big transfers of Sakho and Benteke.
