Danny Baker.....life long Labour supporter, supporter of Corbyn.....suddenly decides one morning to go full blown 'mixed race equals chimp'?

Or perhaps he's just a bit anti royal and made a poor taste joke without connecting the dots.

I think I believe Baker.....but who cares....the BBC are very politically correct and he rides with the progressives so he gets what he deserves as they have little mercy for his sort.

But it was probably innocent.

Well that explains why O'Brian didn't go nuclear on him. I think it was an innocent mistake but I just find it funny that the arch politically correct presenter O'Brian was squirming.

I posted earlier in this thread that although I'm no fan of Danny Baker I thought sacking him was PC gone mad. When I saw the image I assumed he was being satirical not about race but about the Royal Family (not known for their brain power). It never even occurred to me that some people might see it as racist. I looked again and realised that I had been very naive. The racist connotation cannot be ignored. I don't think he meant it as such but it's certainly been seen that way. That makes him even more naive than me.

All true, but it’s still a recognised verbal, and now visual insult, that white refer to particular black people as apes. That’s why loads of people would’ve seen the news and thought it immediately, obviously. Things like ‘jungle bunny’ and ‘monkey nuts’ and ‘being from the jungle’, ‘eating bananas’ were all used a few decades back. We know the references. It’s clear. All humans descend from apes, but it’s black people who’ve been mocked or abused for it, and for the link being a lot lot closer, as in before they boarded the boat.

My own personal laugh was how could the royals come to terms with black blood and afro hair in the family, even if he’s not going to be king. However, there doesn’t appear to be any problems, although nothing said we’ve heard about. Royalists in white enclaves however must still be shocked and frozen still at the news they were to be married.

Why is that a source of humour?

Why not? Did you not find Alf Garnett a little bit funny?

I certainly found it amusing. But then again, I'm not what one might call a "modern man". Can't be doing with all the sanctimonious, holier than thou bullsh*t.

Why do you always assume this obtuse position on race issues? You know why, it was a different era, where joking about someones race was accepted, today it isn't. Got it?

Wtf? You obviously don’t understand Alf Garnett.

I was finding it funny that SOME OF the royals or royalists might find a black person in the family difficult to accept. Is that alright with you? Actually I don’t care.

I also laughed at the monkey picture, not because I found the picture funny, but because I was laughing at it in a kind of ‘oh he’s not done that has he?’ kind of way. Is that alright with you also?

FWIW, I’ve already said why I think there’s an unacceptable, derogatory link between apes today and blacks today, so what’s your problem?

But yes, I do have issues with Islam. So what? This is a Christian country or should be a secular country with its foundations built from Christianity.

It’s good that in real life I can STILL give a wide berth to people who are willing to give away everything we pride, or perhaps have taken for granted, away by people wh don’t care, aren’t affected, or aren’t anyway near it, and/or for their illogical ideology.

I’ve seen him give his side and I believe him. Who knows how he didn’t see that this was going to be seen how it has. I can’t get my head round that, but sometimes very clever people don’t think like the masses or miss things others see. I still think he should’ve been aware of it though, and I really think he is, but it appears he wasn’t at the time because his reason for it overrode it so much. Brains are complex. We don’t all think the same way all of the time, but he should’ve thought it through just a little. Maybe in his laughter his thought process was jaded, but it’s no excuse as a BBC employee.

OK, so you've now answered my earlier question (although that was just about the royals, not royalists). I get it now. You don't believe that - or you have no evidence that - any of the royal family has a problem with a mixed race person joining or being born into their ranks, but you think it's funny that they might have a problem. I recommend a you treat yourself to a good night out at a comedy club, Rudi!

You can say you're old fashioned, not a modern man, or unPC whatever, but I think thats more of a you thing than a society thing

Or you can look up the word satire. Or has that got to be criminalised as well?
