Not everyone prefers modern football though.

I must admit that I liked the days when people supported their local team which had far more local players in it than modern teams

When England won the world cup in 66 our leagues were full of British players. Our team in 70 was arguably stronger. Germany regularly win the world cup and have a majority German league system.

When the Premiership came in with all that money it claimed that this would improve the national side. The reality, if anything, has been the opposite.

The football money men benefited and the fan forked out a lot more from their working wages to pay for it.

Sky have single handedly made modern football not killed it.
They may have killed off pre Sky involvement football. But modern day football with all the money is all Sky. They are 100% guilty of turning the game into what is modern football.

At a macro level, tv money is good in my view, the problem is how it's spent. Not enough going down the leagues and parks.

Sadly today, money buy's success, we all miss the days when good honest football was played by people who just enjoyed the game, sadly these days its about individuals and not the team!

So my two pennies worth:

Football is what it is today, and we can debate the rights and wrongs of it but at the end if the day we have got what we have. We are not going to change it and trying to be the island in the ocean will just make us sink, eventually. Adapt and evolve.

As for Thaksin Shinawatra, I really don't know much about him other than what I can recall from his brief period in control of City. As I recall he did alright for them and helped develop the club. How fickle we are when we lambaste Parrish on here for not developing the club, not dipping into his pockets to fund transfers etc and when we get another alternative come along we say 'oh no not him'and then find several reasons to try to justify why not. We seem to want to have the perfect chairman who ticks all the boxes of every supporter. Well I hate to break it to you folks, it ain't going to happen. The best we can hope for is that the positives outweigh the negatives. For me Parrish does that and Shinawatra could. Yes, as a headline the `exiled for corruption` seems very worrying but maybe we should listen to those who know more than the rest of us do. There have been a few posts from our Thai supporters on here saying, that is the norm, the culture for Thailand at the moment and he is a popular and liked figure over there.

If Palace stand still then in effect we move backwards as others move forwards. If Shinawatra comes in with the intent and desire (and of course funding) to help our club develop and move forwards then he will have my backing. Parrish has always said, and I believe, that he has the clubs best interests and long term future at heart and we have seen nothing that would suggest otherwise. He has always said if the right person, in his view, comes along to take over the club he would do what is right for the club. I still trust him in this.

Having read up a BIT on him...

Suspect he's a bit autocratic as an owner and might find it hard not to sweat the small stuff. Amnesty says his anti drugs campaign led to the deaths of at least 1,000 innocents (as well as many guilty).

Reckon he's talking to the Americans, not SP, since they're the ones sounding out investors. That's a finer point missed by the Thai media.

Good chance he did a few of the things the junta alleged were an abuse of power (although perhaps not to the extent) but it's a junta doing the accusing and who knows the norms for wealthy, powerful individuals in Thailand? I don't.

If he came, I think he'd take great care to make the vibe seem good. He'd be using us in part to gain popularity in Thailand.

There are far, far too many dubious people involved in football. Big time football (and Palace are big time like it or not) attracts all comers. The FA’s fit and proper tests are banal and dangerous. Be very, very careful about Palace’s future otherwise we could easily fall like Pompey did into a morass of troubles, court orders, relegations etc etc.

Palace is, principally, run by a fan who knows the club, staff, fans and players. ‘In ParishI trust’ and as fans are rightly keen to sing:

“He’s one of our own!”

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

The one thing that intrigues me is what will Mr Sinatra take away from any likely Palace deal?...
