There is a lengthy thread on the BBS about WWE wrestling which has been running for years and includes many comments on how good a certain bout was and that X was a worthy victor. Do these people not know that it's not really a sport as everything is highly choreographed down to the nth degree? I took my wrestling mad son to the WWE night in Birmingham a couple of days ago and we had good seats so it was possible to see the punches and kicks that weren't actually connecting but the couple of mid twenties lads sitting behind were chatting as if it was all real. Anyone here think it's real sport?

No it's not a real sport and WWE themselves call it 'sports entertainment'. I actually went on a work jolly on Tuesday and if you take it for what it is, it's a good laugh. You're right that some of it is choreographed but I don't believe the whole match is. The winner is predetermined but much of the 'moves' they talk through as they go. Effectively they are stuntmen/women and given the nature of it, understandably appeals to kids and Americans. "We're the Holmesdale, We're the Holmesdale, We're the Holmesdale over here!!"

You shouldn't be surprised that people are stupid.

Of course, you do get hurt and sometimes badly hurt wrestling and some wrestlers really don't like others, which sometimes spills over into the ring. I can tell you that for a fact.
I guess that seeing men on steroids battering each other is still appealing to the young, but surely anyone over 10 years old should know that the results of the fights are pre-arranged and the fighting largely rehearsed.

Sports Entertainment is not misleading at all. they are wrestling which is a sport and then you have the entertainment side which is the drama story lines etc. It is a lot more physical then you think I remember when I was a teenager and went to wrestling camp thinking it would be a bit of fun far from it very physical also you need to be in good shape which steroids wont do (just popping pills doesn't make you a big guy you still need to put in the work) only people that have never done sports or anything like this will come out with rubbish like you had you done any of it you would have a far different view. It is a lot more physical then you think I remember when I was a teenager and went to wrestling camp thinking it would be a bit of fun far from it very physical also you need to be in good shape which steroids wont do (just popping pills doesn't make you a big guy you still need to put in the work)
