Yes, there is also video/social media footage of it happening in the 'euros' it has been mentioned that 28 people were caught, tho how many were 'charged' no idea.

Agree with most of this, but, what about the increasing 'vote counters' being caught rubbing out the PENCILLED votes. My advice to voters is bring & use your own pen(its NOT illegal)

Last year this came up in our training session. If people want to use a pen then of course they can so why do we use a pencil?

After you put your X in the box you have to fold the paper. If the X is still wet because it is a pen the X may transfer to one of the other candidates thus making it look like you have voted for 2 people. If it is not clear what your intentions are your vote will not count.

I must admit I have not heard of anyone altering ballot papers this could only happen at a count where the sealed boxes are open in full view of representatives from all parties. Once the count starts these people constantly walk amongst the counters to ensure that this type of thing does not happen.

For it to happen as suggested you would need the collusion of quite a few people so having done the job I personally don't believe it but happy to be proved wrong.

By the way if this did happen I would expect stiff criminal sentences to be handed down.

Update
By the way I don't this this is a clever way of cheating. The "better" way is to do what some "community" leaders do. You tell your people to ask for a postal vote and to give you the envelope when it arrives. This has happened and people have gone to gaol however I suspect it is still going on.

I asked a friend why would anyone from his community just handover their vote? "Because our families back home will be targetted" was the rather sad answer.

If MPs are serious about increasing voter turnabout they should add "None of the Above" to the ballot paper.

Currently your only choice apart from staying indoors is to spoil your vote which lumps you in with the idiots who mess up their ballot papers. I for one would like to know how many genuinely messed up papers there are versus voters who are protesting.

From my experience of voter counting I would say the vast majority of voters spoil their ballot paper deliberately. But then the MPs don't want to know that do they because then they'll have to do something about it. Much better to complain that the electorate are idiots who can't put a cross in the right box.

By the way for a vote to be spoilt the voter must really mess up. If you start to put a cross in one box realise you made a mistake and cross it out and do it correctly it will normally be counted. As long as the voter intention is clear.

I was a count assistant at both the recent district council and European parliament elections. At the former count, I unfolded a ballot paper on which the 'voter' had written derogatory comments about all but one candidate ("w@nker" "tw@t" "@rsehole" etc). For the remaining candidate, they had drawn a lovely schoolboy-esque cock and hairy balls with an accompanying dotted line to represent ejaculate. Naturally, I put this paper on the 'doubtful' pile.

When the 'doubtful' ballot papers for the ward I was counting were then reviewed by the Deputy Returning Officer - a process which is witnessed by/discussed with the candidates or their representatives - the agreed conclusion was that the cock and balls drawing should be accepted as a vote, on the grounds that it had been executed completely within the confines of the box corresponding to the candidate, whereas the derogatory comments had been written in the white space next to the respective candidates' names (ie not in the box). All parties therefore agreed that the drawing was acceptable "on the balance of probability" as a valid indication of voting intention.

Boris or Gove will do. Anyone who’ll deliver Brexit unlike that waste of space, Theresa May.

Not Gove please. The winner will probably have to lead the Tories into the next General Election and people won't vote for a reptile like Gove

Yes I know. I’d possibly give it to Andrea Leadsome. (The leadership)

Real life business experience, and at board level, in several top places.

Crazy. Never seen one of those but seen lots of papers with swear words. Of course the parties are to blame they could have protested but chose not to. As for the voter it seems their intention was clear as you have called it that they were voting for none of the above.

If there needs to be a two week wait between each round of voting, it will be 6 months before there is a new Tory leader / PM. Who is in charge during this period?

There is no deputy PM any more, perhaps all the contenders can take it in turns for a week or two to see who's the best.

Possibly a combination of the two.Perhaps some will make their minds up after the hustings.

I heard someone suggest that it is feasible that some candidates might not be revealing which MPs are supporting them and will reveal these at an opportune time so that they are seen as gaining momentum.
