And we're living in an age where the media posts up mobile phone footage of violent acts happening around Britain every day of the week. And in these 20-second clips, we're all judge and jury as to what actually happened before, during and after. Everyone's getting angry, while the Mail Online and Guardian are coining it in with the clicks.

That's a two way street though. When someone punches Tommy when he's clearly no physical threat to them, it's documented evidence and he's within his right to take action. I would suggest we treat their 'here's what really happened' after the fact video in the same way that we treat his. In that there may or may not be something to it, but the actual video evidence of an assault is there to see.

Dollardays, in the real world there is no such thing as a fair fight.

Unfortunately, it's not 1940-50s Hollywood.
If you're fair you lose.

chivalry, died a long time ago.

So true
If you could Ask the dead stab victims how fair their fight was......
Sort of proves parks' point really

Exactly. Only doing what my Mum taught me.
None of her boys were going to come worst off, and equally none of us have ever mouthed off at strangers (or people we know for that matter) and brought a hiding on ourselves.

I'll pass that mentality onto mine when the time is right, they already know to speak to others how they wish to be spoken to. I'd much rather be the parent of a child who knew how to get out of a sticky situation then one grieving because their idealist child got kicked to death waiting for the rules of engagement to be established.

Like you say, all in the upbringing.

Well, the good news is that any old have a go Harry that wants to lamp Yaxley for what he says is now completely within their rights to do it.

Oh, and when you only have half an iris because the other half got torn our, your eye looks black.

Exactly. These days you're a mug to let them get their hands out of their pockets as it'll probably have a knife in it, let alone ask them for a straightener, no headbutts or low blows.

Multiculture for you. Enriching according to the left!

It depends what you mean by fair. I would suggest that someone saying that they would 'jump on my head' is drifting someone from a notion of what any decent person would be expecting from a fight.

Of course ChrisGC with his family that he clearly doesn't particularly care about, if he's filled with excitement about all of this apparently wild, head stamping fights he's been in or is egging on, is getting a little carried away and trying to relive his youth. That's his prerogative.

As another poster said, as adults generally speaking people realise that if you keep having fights where you behave like this, it's not going to particularly end well for any of those involved. It's an unsustainable behaviour. Prison, brain damage, death? Oh what fun for the family.

Someone didn't get enough toy soldiers as a kid.

Everything is situational isn't it and yes thats something wroth paying mind to. Your logic legalimises knife crime though. 'I best tool up and stab someone in case they're going to do the same to me'.

Clearly the vast majority of fights aren't serious, as you well know, late night pub stuff.. and as such this idea that we should all instantly have some kind of no holds barred approach where we're head stamping away.. even in case where the bloody bloke clearly wasn't interested in a fight, is absurd.

Yes because hitting someone who has offered up no physical threat and saying how in your shoes you'd have stamped on his head.. before telling 'me' that if I wanted a fair fight you would also stamp on my head if really going to 'get them out of a sticky situation' isnt it. Real Father of your year stuff.

If you act like this to people in real life you'll obviously cause more problems than solve them.

Dollardays, you're coming across a bit naive. Everything is situational? Well, yes! but we are talking about animal instincts, which is what we are, with the advantage of higher intelligence.

If the bloke wasn't interested in a fight, then he would not have used such provocative words like racist.

As said before, if your parents never told you about the dangers of insulting people you don't know, then live with you actions, and the consequences

I don't advocate carrying blades at all.
Your logic is to twist everything and read it literally.
Read what I wrote but read it in context.
did you see the scrotes in Croydon attacking adults outside the pub.
f***ing disgraceful.
There will be an excuse for them.
Was that fair on the guys having a quiet drink?
Unprovoked and not fair.
They are 14 years old.
Can you see what the future holds for those kids.
Half will be dead or in clink before 30.
No doubt you will try to defend them.
These are kids who have been told they have a devine right to do what they want with no punishment.
The same as it is open season on TR.
You and yours are the reasons it's so f***ed up.
And I would gladly smash the face in of the Muslim pedos.
Which is back to where I joined this part of the thread.
Life ain't fair so why should fighting be any different.
