When you struggle to pay for heating, it's a real kick in the teeth for the BBC to be knocking on your door with a begging bowl.

As for Lineker, how the other half life. And he'll get to pocket the new £50,000+ earner tax cut of course. Nice to see we've got our priorities right as a country.

But it's OK because like most of not all BBC presenters he's a self proclaimed socialist (living in the highly diverse Barnes - where almost entirely white people have many diverse types of luxury car) so will obviously be giving most of it away. Don't see the problem myself.

Are there any left wing celebrities that actually live in "diverse" areas?

Not really, since I earn over that amount. It was a commentary on the fact that essentially it takes a thousand plus pensioners to pay for Linekers wages, and he's personally set to benefit further from these changes. Not everything people say needs to be a problem.

Exactly. Lineker certainly talks a good game on twitter. I expect his actual living arrangements and treatment of his finances are clinically removed from his pushed persona though.

Back to the reason behind your comment
over 75 and you shouldn’t pay for a license then?

Well, on one hand I do appreciate that younger people are often Netflix types and so there may be a certain unfairness on that side too. So I can understand why 'if' we're going to have a publicly funded channel, the burden has to be shared.

Introducing this change for people entering the age group going forward rather than those currently not paying may have been an alternative to this change. It does seem somewhat unfair to me that if someone is say in their 80s, and budgets around not having to pay for a TV license, that they suddenly have to find that money. It's not even only the financial squeeze, change at that age can be very hard to process.

You know the fairest way to do it IMO
Optional to pay from £0 to the whole amount for over 75’s
Any figure in the middle.
There are plenty who will pay it all and plenty who won’t pay a bean.
Some old people presume a divine right to free everything and some can and do play the fair game.
In this scenario some might feel a small contribution is better than nothing just to alleviate any guilt.
That way at least the beeb get something without seeming to persecute anyone.

The whole situation had an inevitability to it. The government pushing the 'you pay for the over 75s now' over to the BBC, then the BBC saying 'no thanks'. I expect they both knew that this was coming.

You're right about adopting a fair approach though, and of maybe including a bit of wiggle room for those in that age bracket. Some possibly can't pay, and lots of old people are too proud to claim any benefits, and consequently won't be exempt under current rules. So that does seem unfair on them.

I certainly do think that OAPs in future decades will have it even harder though, with strains on the NHS and I can't imagine free bus passes and the like sticking around forever, so things will go from bad to worse in future.

Nobody should pay for a license.

Get woke = go broke.

Even the great BBC nature shows are now ruined by preaching ideology but at least they employ people with talent.

The news organisation is just a bunch of activists with free (i.e. your) money who are actively working against the native people of this island. They would throw us all in the sea given the chance.

Bearing in mind we are all being pushed to live until we are 143 by how healthy we should be the oap might fit a different age bracket.
65 will be the new best years of your life.
