The sound on SKY is scandalously poor. Amazon and Netflix are far better through a stick and a disc far superior. Bloody SKY Q box is a nightmare with my Denon AVR.

Sky had the option of allowing more bandwidth for some of the more popular channels or cramming in yet more channels and chose the latter path.

I don't have Amazon but the sound through Netflix is far, far better than Sky.

I have your Denon's close cousin - Marantz

The Denon sounds good but one of the two HDMI outputs failed last week after only 16 months, so it's off to the repair shop for a few weeks. I'd only been using both outputs to run a projector for a couple of months.

More tech, more bother.

I am currently watching all the series of Breaking Bad again via Netflix downloads on the train to and from work. Currently half way through series 2 and just as good the second time round.
Peaky Blinders first couple of series were superb.
Never managed to get into Game of Thrones (clearly I am in a minority).

Some of the older series are worth a look too

Budgie - really is like going back in time.
Frank Ross is Out - Tom Bell in 70s crime drama.
Prospects - like Minder without the punch ups.
Hill Street Blues still stands up. Mostly.
Callan - still down and dirty.
The Sandbaggers - largely office bound spy series which worked surprisingly well.
Larry Sanders Show - still funny.
Not strictly a box set but Law and Order - The G.F.Newman original version. One story told from four perspectives is very good.

You have excellent taste. British TV at its awesome best.

Budgie - tick
Out - tick
Callan - tick
Sandbaggers - tick
Law & Order - massive tick but incredibly grim and depressing

I'd like to add:

The Avengers (John Steed & co, not that American shyte)
The Sweeney
The World at War
It Ain't Half Hot Mum

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I must admit Emma Peel made me feel a bit...unusual when I was a lad.
Another series I’ve been meaning to check out is Gangsters (late 70s set in Birmingham starring Maurice Colbourne) which I remember enjoying up to a point but which ended up being completely crazy.

I never dreamt that I'd ever see these two next to each other in a list.

World at War has to be one of the best series ever made.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I met Don Estelle 20 years ago. He had a pop up stand in a Middlesbrough shopping centre flogging his cd's

I felt rather sorry for him

We recently bought the boxed set of the whole series.....they'd certainly never get away it now, but there really are some gems in them.

Portraying reality (and the series captured the atmosphere at that time and place pretty well, by all accounts) seems to be rather unfashionable these days. ITV and the BBC were a lot bolder and more experimental back in the 70s.
