Would the Sage care to update this:

The clear message was that Palace if course had 45 million to spend and 9 new players was the way ahead. We of course lost badly in the window to Fulham.

Can’t pretend I’ve re-read it all but how did his 9 (first names) picks do? I do hope he’ll fill us in. Quick gleanings:

We were short at right back and only had players of 11-14 place quality and up front Niasse or Muto were just right of course.

We're still short on right backs, with AWB close to being sold and no competent replacement with Ward or Kelly there.

We would have been heavily relegation threatened with that squad if a real striker had not arrived. Luckily Batshuayi did and his goals mattered. Zaha and Townsend couldn;t get the club so high without a striker and when I wrote the only options were Benteke, Sorloth and Wickham. While Batshuayi may be a good sporting option, he would be a horrible financial option if the club paid 45 million for him, as Chelsea is asking. He has already disrupted the squad by playing here 6 months and not allowing another striker become accustomed to the team.

Yes, I believe Muto and Niasse could have done good at Palace, being cheap options, much, much cheaper than Batshuayi. And many others, not just them. Better than Benteke anyway, as good as Bats.

Muto has hardly had chances at Newcastle and it's Benitez's fault, not his. When he was used, he was used as winger even though he;s a striker. Niasse went to Cardiff where he had very little service. Yes, he didn't do anything, but it would have been a different thing with the passes of Zaha or Townsend than in Cardiff with assists from Mendez Laing and Kadeem Harris (!).

Anything else?
