It was reported that one of the issues Benitez had was the proposed transfer budget for the summer - £50m was mentioned. Not enough for Rafa apparently.

The biggest difference between Benitez and Parish is that the former wants to push on and get the club into Europe whilst all Parish wants is survival.

The Newcastle manager felt that £50m wasn't enough to buy the quality of player needed to progress so decided to call it a day and look for a club with more ambition

Agreed - point I was making is that under those circumstances Benitez wouldn't have been an upgrade of what we have in Hodgson given a similar size budget.

As for Parish, he needs financial support as we all know. The sticking point ( I suspect ) is his insistence on continuing in his role of running the club.

An article on the BBC suggested it was not just the size of the budget but the difference in opinion on how it is used. Ashley supposedly wanted youth players with resell value and was reluctant to give big contracts to those over 28, whereas Benitez wanted just to buy the players he wanted to buy without this restriction. I can understand Ashley's viewpoint in this, but I imagine Benitez is more concerned with success than financial stability.

The reason Benitez is leaving Newcastle is that he can get a massive pay rise by going to China.

A fair bit of conjecture there.

I don’t think you’re ever going to agree that selling a £55 million right back is the right call when he also wants to go and we have serious issues at the other end of the pitch. Just how many clubs in the bottom half or out of the top 3 even, keep £55 million players, and right backs at that? Please, we may have missed which clubs do this.

That's why they are still at the bottom.

As usual, you don't answer the question.

You claim to have supported Palace for many years and yet you post like we have some kind of entitlement to be competing at the top end of the best league in world football.

Don't remember Leicester finishing bottom after Mahrez went for £55m.

Don't remember Watford finishing bottom when the sold Richarlison for £50m.

Should Leicester refuse to sell Maguire this year too?

On average, over however many seasons, you’ll finish roughly where your revenue is in the table.

There's certainly mega money behind football in China ... pity that some of it doesn't come our way. If they don't want the whole club they could at least buy Benteke so we could put in a decent offer for Batshuayi.

I claim?

Your post is meaningless.

This club needs to do what it can to grow.
I believe that selling your best players is the wrong approach.
Clearly, as Parish is a fan, I'm guessing that this is being done out of desperation or because the other major shareholders have demanded it.

This kind of backward step will keep occurring until the club develops its revenue potential.

A silly and self defeating comparison since they had won the league and then dipped badly after selling some of their best players.
