I can reveal, exclusively, that Jordan Ayew is the replacement for Wan Bissaka.

Look, I hope I'm proved wrong and Ayew contributes something other than making up numbers, but is it any more of a risk to just have James Daly, Flanagan, Kirby or Dreher on the bench? Based on Ayew's performances on loan last season I don't think it is. You can't even argue about the physicality of the league as he got brushed off the ball by a slight breeze.

How have they done on loan?

I don’t hear many waxing lyrical about any of them.

2.5 mil?

You probably couldn’t sign that poster on here who claims he is a football expert because he had a trial at accrington stanley once for that these days.

He can hold it up, he can dribble, he can harry and disposes defenders.

Get him in for 2.5 million quid.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

It’s nothing new that we don’t have an ambition to challenge Everton, Leicester, Wolves, West Ham etc by signing a cheap backup player because of mistakes and neglect of scouting and being prepared for August rather than February at a higher cost but that is where we are.

I’ve been tempted to opt for the laptop and armchair like you. I may do exactly that, but the club is facing reality until we get the fanstasy buy the club you demand.

Accepted, but does that really justify wasting money?
This sort of player will not do in the PL even with no ambition to improve. It's a waste of the wage budget.

Really? I must have missed all that. I remember him coming on and we got worse.

Flanagan was our development POTY, Kirby was getting good reviews at Blackpool and Dreher made his debut for us against Bournemouth. Daly has a good goal-scoring record at youth level, while he scored 8 goals in 21 appearances on loan at Kingstonian. I'm not against us signing a cheap back-up and I'm not saying youngsters are the answer, but I just didn't see anything in Ayew to suggest he offers any value. That's my opinion. Hopefully if we do sign him he proves me wrong.

Yes I’ve just remembered Dreher coming on.

There is also the case of the youngsters being brought in gradually and under minimal pressure. Them not being relied on too heavily.

I also wonder who’d go mental if we were stretched, as we’ve been in the past, and we’re playing kouyate and Jimmy out wide even more with obviously 2 more central midfielders in the centre.

Here’s a clue.

Better players tend to want bigger wages and there is only a finite amount of money.

Ok, so we'll select the starting 11 on how much they earn rather than form. That sounds sensible.

Your lack of intelligence or common sense is more and more obvious.

1. Ayew played centrally when Benteke was out and there was nobody else available. His natural position is wide left.

2. Ward over AWB? What? AWB is starting out in the game so he’s going to ear less.

3. There isn’t an aim by Roy to select or place players in the pecking order of earnings, although that does happen because high priced assets aren’t given up on easily.

Rest assured Benteke is above Ayew in the pecking order and Wickham will be if he gets fitter and is able to last long enough in matches and for enough matches. And Ayew isn’t a central player anyway so you’re only going to see him after Benteke, possibly a new striker on loan or permanent, and maybe Wickham. He’ll also be behind Zaha, Townsend and possibly Meyer out wide.

You can’t get any more last resort than that, but you stick to your mad logic assumptions or opinions based on when no other strikers were available because we only had Benteke, Ayew and an injured Wickham on the books.

Now mods, can we please have that ignore button?

Can't get more last resort then that?

Empirical evidence:

He played more games than either Wickham or Benteke last season.

Where are you getting the idea that he's going to be last choice? You talk about common sense/ intelligence like you possess an ounce of either when you're actually clearly in negative equity.

I'll also add that he's f***ing s*** too so it doesn't matter if he is going to be 3rd choice. It's 2.5m plus wages straight in the crapper.

Exactly.

Holding up the ball was probably the worst thing he was bad at. Very lightweight.

No idea what people are basing this "2.5 million well spent" cobblers on. He PROVED he wasn't premier league standard ffs.

Might as well have shredded the cash+wages, it'll be cheaper in the long run when you consider the overheads of feeding/ kitting him out.

You did miss it.

He had some good games.

Point is the cost is next to nothing for an attacking player who can bring something to the team.

Now AWB is gone we are getting relegated either way though right, so who cares?

The only thing he brings to most teams is relegation.
We got lucky last season and broke the jinx.

Maybe we want to give him another chance.
