I only caught a little of the debate last night as it was on the same time as the game. I heard separately though that vast numbers of Conservative members had already cast their votes anyway, so the very, very slim chance Hunt had diminished to nothing before the debate had even started. A quick odds check reveals Boris to be 1-20 now, so all but sewn up really.

It's his job to call it as he sees it.

No it wasn’t. It was a standard report. Do keep up.

In my humble estimation Hunt performed far better than Boris Johnson in the TV debate.

He had a persona of professionalism and he was punctilious providing answers to questions, whereas Boris was full of his usual bluster and patently avoided answering some questions put to him.Not one of Boris' finest performances.

I have yet to cast my vote in the Leadership election.

The Tories only have one option to win an election against Corbyn.....and it isn't Hunt.

I mean seriously.....You'd put another MP who voted remain in charge of the party?

He'd say anything...Remember May's 'no deal is better than a bad deal?'.

As was said, he is nothing but May 2.0......He's the candidate that Labour want to win the leadership.

It would instantly kill a deal with the Brexit party.....They could turn around to its members and say that they were the real Tories now.

I have seen no evidence that Hunt will come up on the rails and pip Boris at the post.Virtually all members I have spoken to back Boris to the hilt and this is reflected nationally.

Agree.

Boris isn't even in the job, yet apparently this tosser's resignation is his fault, is it f***.

His position was completely untenable having insulted the most power man on the planet, risking international relations. Trump refused to work with him any longer so he had to go!

His resignation was appropriate and the best outcome.

Now they need to find the grass and post them to outer Mongolia.

He is not a t*sser, look at his history

Would you rather he had not reported back to the UK then? Using a highly controlled and encrypted system

Maybe he was a dead man walking but maybe not. Trump has a very short attention span.

I have heard several ex ambassadors support Sir Kim but then admit he had to go. This week he had been barred from key meetings in Washington. An ambassador that doesn't have access is useless.

Apparently there will be further revelations this weekend. Boris was right not to get involved he is a back bencher it is Hunt's job as Foreign Secretary to support the diplomats. The calls to blame Johnson were an attempt to bounce Johnson into backing someone he may not want as his ambassador.

If May goes ahead and appoints a new ambassador without consulting Johnson or Hunt then she is an even bigger fool then I thought. Both are entitled to decide who our man in Washington should be.

The real issue is still outstanding. Who leaked and why. The other issue is that Sir Kim should have been quietly relieved when Trump took over he was close to Obama and Clinton so this was an accident waiting to happen.

I agree that he had to go even though none of this was his fault. Boris Johnson should have given him his support on the basis that we choose our ambassadors and not Trump otherwise he will give the appearance that he's Trump's poodle and then he could have quietly retired him early when all of the fuss had died down

Is there anyone that you speak positively about?

From what I remember Johnson was pointedly asked if he'd keep him there till he retired.

Johnson gave the sensible answer. It's all very well talking about being 'Trump's poodle' but Johnson is about to face up to the EU and needs Trump onside.
