Completely agree and due respect to New Zealand for the dignified and gracious way they accepted losing under unfortunate circumstances. Boult’s catch and the four extras could have been used as excuses but they weren’t.

I doff my hat to NZ not only on account of their performance but for the fact they were so magnanimous and gracious in defeat. They were a credit to their country. They might have lost but they won the hearts of many.

Agreed. The kiwi commentator was also more exciting to listen to and gave good technical insight.

For a real treat you should listen to the TMS podcast that is on the BBC which covers from 4 overs out in the England innings. Jonathan Agnew take a bow. Superb drama.

The ICC could possibly use another metric to decide the outcome in these situations other than most boundaries hit; cumulative runs scored or wickets taken or a combination of factors but 50 over games aren’t usually a T20 style slog fest so this feels like a slightly arbitrary stat to use.

It was only when I saw a report later that I realised that boundaries would come into it. Wickets lost would seem an obvious choice in this situation. However, the rules were the same for both teams.
Stoke's accidental overthrows were just insane - in all my years never seen anything like it (apart from the obvious Palace ones - two goals that never happened).

There is also some debate about the interpretation of the law and whether or not Stokes had completed the second run. If not England should have only been awarded 5 runs.
This sounds as though I’m trying to take away from England’s achievement which I’m not.

The Kiwis did not lose this game it was a tie.

There is nothing wrong with England and NZ being joint world champions for 4 years.

The Kiwis have taken this extraordinarily well, imagine if it was Australia
OMG !!!!!!!

People who backed NZ in my view should have their stake refunded.

How people find cricket boring is beyond me.

What I don't get, is Why was it a draw?

NZ were 241/8, we ended 241/ALL OUT.
Surely NZ Win on wickets?

There’s something pleasingly “cricket” about the idea of joint champions.
If it had been the Aussies it would have been a lot more fun.

I must admit that I suggested to wifey that perhaps we should have joint champions

Many people have short attention spans and can't concentrate for more than an hour and a half

Would a replay have been impossible? Seems fairest way to me.
