Personally I'm not sure that it's the American's fault at all.

We have an unusual situation where the club is to all extents and purposes run by a minority shareholder who has got us to where we are today but can't take us any further.

The answer is to sell the club to someone with deeper pockets but I have a feeling that the sticking point is that Parish wants to retain his minority shareholding and to continue to run the club and that will put off most billionaires.

Dilapidated stadium aside Crystal Palace is a highly saleable commodity and there must be loads of billionaires who would happily buy it as long as they could put their own man in to run it

totally agree

Nail on the head. I have been saying exactly the same for some time. I really do feel SP has taken us as far as he can and it is time for him to let go

Wouldn’t any billionaire owner want a CEO to manage the day to day running of the club?

Don't forget that Palace did bid around 25m for Chalov and this has pretty much been confirmed by the players agent.

There were also strong rumours that palace wanted to sign the Chelsea right back and had offered very good money...some reports suggest 20m for him.

So it is my opinion that the club did identify targets. The targets were good young players with loads of potential. The players we had identified were not available and we must have made a decision to hold off and wait for the right players to become available.

It is all very annoying for fans when they are left to make assumptions on what did/did not happen behind closed doors. If it is any consolation Palace always make better signings in Jan than they ever do in Aug.

Far too late though (again!!). Being cynical maybe they knew it was too late but can legitimately claim to have made a bid

Yes but of their own choice

The question for me is did we genuinely try and fail to get a striker and right-back, which would indicate complete incompetence, or are we financially screwed and were only going to spend on those positions if we sold Zaha? Not sure which is worse.

listening to the radio a few evenings ago, a chap that seemed to know what he was talking about said the yank owners of Utd take out much of the profit each year & certainly let a lot less than they put in.
looks like Parish bought a pup if our Americans are doing likewise.
Guess the only answer is getting into bed with somebody else but out of the frying pan into the fire?

Different buisness model though - Utd were laden with debt.

I think the safe bet is that we tried and failed. This has been an unusually difficult window for full backs...I don't mean to make excuses for SP/DF. Strikers are always difficult.

Chelsea being unable to sign players has also potentially hurt us in this window. It would seem their right back and Bats were perhaps players we would have wanted and that has prevented their release.

I'm as frustrated as everyone else...but I also believe that we are better to wait and get the right players than to gamble. The fees are just so high that we can't afford any more mistakes.

The late attempts and failing on them is an interesting one, especially with what happened with Tosun in Turkey and Niasse and his agent.

I want the Americans gone asap, but if they didn’t put their money in to fund the Allardyce survival spending of..... £40 mil, plus all the wages that came with it, we would’ve been relegated:

The plan, or public plan, was to fund the new stand. I don’t think it was to fund the squad, or our inadequate methods of running a professional football team. However, I think Parish hinted they wanted to sign Benteke and he didn’t. So they started it! Seriously again, if we didn’t sign Benteke then we may have been relegated. Back to inadequate scouting etc etc etc.

Lots said American owners aren’t the way to go and here we are.

I’m not so sure it’s ever as simple as here’s 100m buy some talent. I won’t pretend to be an expert on FFP, but it is of course linked to our income and while 80% or our income is spent on wages you can see what’s happening to literally every penny of our tv money. It pretty much all goes on players wages.

Look at Norwich this summer. It’s an interesting situation. They over spent last time they were in the Prem and this summer, even after a £100m injection from promotion they have spent under £5m. This must baffle the fans who would all expect an influx of players. Look at Fulham, Wolves, Villa...they have signed new squads after promotion.
