Will Lokilo be? Does Lokilo have any numbers in the PL2, League One or League Two?

Nothing personal against Lokilo, would really like for him to make it.

But who should be Townsend backup this season out of the players who are left for free? Lokilo? Or a guy with great numbers at youth level who can come free and maybe....maybe....actually turn out to be at least as helpful as Bakary Sako?

What would be the logical thing for the club to do?

No, and if you suggested we sign someone with Lokilo’s record I’d say that was bonkers as well.

As I already said, I’d sooner see any combination of Schlupp, Meyer, Macca and Camarasa cover the spot. Picking up a 22 year old who will never make it is a complete waste of time.

Schlupp has never-ever played as right wing though. He doesn'y know the specifics of thebposition, doesn't know how to dribble and cut inside. Macca has played with decent success, but the point was he is nothing like Townsend, is of the opposite foot, disrupts the entire tactics.

Meyer is also a right footed player, blessed with more talent. He has played as right wing in his youth but at this point and age he's more a technical player than a speedster and playing as right wing doesn't suit him. More like left wing, cutting inside.

Camarasa has 5 matches in his entire career as winger.

And all of them would be better than a 22 year old free agent with 16 pro league games under his belt, and 0 experience above league 2. Of that I’m certain.

Why does Townsends 'backup' need to be an identical player in the sense of a left footed right winger?

Why couldn't you have a right sided winger on the right? What's the sense in being so one dimensional that every player is identical for that position.

I'd sooner bring someone off the bench who would add a different dimension to the play if somethings not working rather than go, Townsends having no joy cutting in on his left, let's see if identical man will do any better.

Personally I'd like to see Townsend back on the left and Zaha (whilst he's still here) on the right, whatever they may think, and have them crossing the ball in to the striker(s), then we might actually see some goals from the front-runners. We've been experimenting with this 'inverted' winger nonsense for long enough, in my opinion, and I'd like to see us get back to trying tactics that I've actually seen work for us in the not too distant past.

Because it's about tactics and passing routes that a manager does in training and the players have to know very well when coming on the pitch. They are accustomed to specific routes. Point is for the substitute inverted winger to be better in that particular moment when he is sent on, not to bring something totally different.

For the same reason why you have 2 right backs of the same right foot and not one right footed and one left footed.

Same for left backs.

Samenfor wingers. There are normally 2 right footed ones and 2 left footed ones (for each foot either inverted or classic)

If your tactics are identical all the time going forward then any decent opposition manager will set his team up to defend that. If you have a different option on the bench that changes the way we play slightly, that is where the difference is.

You don't see Pep bring off sterling for another right footed left sided forward, he brings on Sane - when he wasn't injured - who changed their style and opened up the opposition.

Comparing wingers and full backs is not really a comparison either.

Your options off the bench, attacking wise, should be varied. If Benteke isn't working as the opposition have two 20 foot bouncers at the back, stick on a small nippy striker to cause them problems. If the full back is anticipating Townsend cutting in every time then stick on a player that will go either way.

All this talk of free agents! We signed very little during the window because I believe we had no intention of doing so. I also believe there will be no further additions from the free market. I am afraid Parish has gambled all to often and got away with it until now. Now I fear we are looking down the barrel!

Title player has signed for Panathinaikos of Greece, a historical club. We'll see how this goes.

As far as I know, changes to the list can be made until September 2. So, names like Riedewald and Innis and even Martin Kelly could dissappear from the final list, making room for more free players who could join and get into the 25.

Or am I wrong? Many playwrs from PL teams will still leave on loan to leagues like the Eredivisie or the Serie A, because the transfer window hasn't closed there. They will leave spaces for their teams which could be occupied by a different player.

One of the best squad players we have. Never lets the team down and can cover RB and CB, he will not be going anywhere

Might get your wish Saturday, perhaps they will draw lots to see who goes up against AWB!!

Yeah, and it would mean that Zaha (if he were on the right) wouldn't have to face his rumoured training nemesis, AWB. However, I suspect that he'll be playing centrally again, if Roy is true to form.
