With Ward and PVA our line of wing defence we will be taken apart. PVA is getting worse by the game. He was certainly well outplayed today by a mediorce team. He is rubbish. Problem is we dont have another left back to replace him, unless someone knows more than me?
The other major disappointment for me was a totally half hearted Wilfred.
Well pissed off!

Schlupp won league as left back

I agree with all that. Shlupp came on and stank the team up even more which I didn’t think possible. He also looked fat.Terrible all round.

Thats because he is fat for a supposed professional athelete.

Roy is a manager that is stuck in The 1990’s...Football has moved on. His team selection and substitutions (or lack of)are nearly always strange..he seems to always pull the player that is doing ok
He plays players out of position...
It’s plain to see that Scott Dann is past it, Luca looks really unfit and just can’t seem to get into the game . We needed a game plan in case we went a goal down...one where we have players on the pitch that have a cutting edge offensively
You need to be able to bring on Camarasa, or switch Meyer into a central position, perhaps introduce last weeks mom Ayew ...Put Wilf on the wing . You don’t take your flair player off and bring on yet another holding central midfielder. Or was Roy taking a 1-0 defeat?
Today, we knew that Sheffield would be physical and a big side.
Kouyate perhaps should have started...I appreciate it’s easy said after the game, but these are basics and just obvious to most

All of this. You must be loving it where you live.

Exactly. How can a professional footballer let himself look fat. What does that say???

There was so much wrong today that it would be a full essay to get it all off my chest.
Lack of desire and spirit.
Lack of the basic ability to pass the ball to one of our own players.
Pass the ball and make an angle for the return - we couldn't do that - give and go is the expression.
We passed the ball slowly, we moved slowly, we went backwards because there was no one ahead to take the ball, we left a huge hole in the middle of midfield, we didn't want the ball - it just goes on.
Let us remember fellow posters that our Manager is probably on £70k/week and that the wage bill for the starting XI was upwards of £750k/week - they are all expected to perform better than that and no one did!
Certainly not the Manager who was clueless although he can only work with what he has and I can't think of any player who I saw have a good game.
Absolutely pathetic and disgraceful.
Utd weren't much good but they deserved the three points.
This is our 7th season at the top table and I would be happier with the team that came up in 2013 starting today - at least they tried!
That is really damning in my opinion.
Got to stop!

Brilliant analysis - don’t mind losing when we put an effort in or are set up correctly/change the tactics if not working but this didn’t happen nor did it look like happening. Awful performance :-(

All of us on here will have to accept the way that Hodgson sets the team up - he’s not going to change.
For me it’s unpalatable to play with 9 behind the ball at Sheffield Utd but no doubt he would point to the very good away form last season as vindication of his methods.
What I can’t accept is his refusal to take any responsibility and he stated that the forwards didn’t work hard enough and he was disappointed that we didn’t manage to have a shot on goal after going a goal behind.
He is responsible for team preparation and tactics and he could commit more players forward, instruct the team to play closer to Benteke and try some innovative set pieces rather than pass to their goalkeeper.
At the end of the game we had Benteke, Wickham, Dann and Kelly in the box waiting for a decent delivery but they would still be waiting if the game had carried on for another hour.

Although we created Jack I must say SU were the master spoilers in the second half. Their ability to time waste and break continuity was up there with best of those ilk. We had no response though. Crap momentum and passing from the back which rippled through the team. It reminded me of the horrors of watching England at their worse 12 years ago with Rio at the back with nowhere to pass and generally no idea.

I was perfectly fine with us setting up in a very compact, functional way in the first half - that's been the basis of our good away form. However, the complete inability to remotely trouble Sheffield Utd after they scored is really, really worrying. Gifted them the points.

If they only scored once against us playing like that, I'd say they're not great.
