Say good riddance to slimy Bercow, the bullying biased Speaker.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I shall not miss him, he has a lot to answer for:

- Extravagant spending at the taxpayers expense.
- Allegations against him of bullying and sexual harassment which he successfully shut down.
- Failure to properly investigate allegations of wrong doing by other MPs including expense fiddling, sexual harassment and "Jim the washing machine salesman do you have any cocaine".
- Failure to conduct himself in a manner where he is seen by Parliament and the public as unbiased and above the fray e.g. "Bollocks to Brexit sticker". OK so it was his wife's car well take the sticker off or get a taxi, according to your expenses you never seem to have a problem ordering a car before.
- Citing ancient parliament procedure and precedent to
to justify blocking Theresa May, fair enough. However he then justifies creating a new precedent to block the Tories. Or Heads he wins tails you lose.

I could go on but I will leave you with this snippet.

Yesterday EU seniors were fulsome in their praise of Bercow and wished he was working with them. I doubt Paddy Power will give you good odds as to his next job, champaign and gravy train anyone?

I weep for the days of Betty Boothroyd and George Thomas.

Listening to Radio 5 yesterday afternoon it appears that Bercow who was a Tory MP at the time garnered all of the Labour votes as they knew that David Cameron hated him.

On that basis I wonder if Dominic Grieve will be the next speaker

I think a couple of Labour MPs are in the running quite frankly I don't care as long as they are "Betty Boothroyd" quality.

Over the last 40 odd years the majority of speakers have been Labour and their partiality has never been questioned. Bercow is the only speaker I can recall who has been challenged in this way.

Now whether you think he is biased or not he has failed. "Caesar's wife must be above suspicion" and the fact that large numbers of MPs and the public believe he is biased means he has failed in his duty.

I suspect that in a few years time many of Bercow's current critics will be giving him great thanks for so stoutly defending the rights of Parliament against the Government. If and when we have a left leaning Labour government attempting to usurp Parliamentary democracy the principles established by Bercow will serve us well.

He most certainly is biased. But he is biased in exactly the way a Speaker should be biased. He favours the rights of MPs, and Parliament as a whole, over the executive. As it is the established principle of the UK system that the executive only govern with the permission of Parliament, who are themselves empowered by the people, this is exactly what the Speaker's duty is. Bercow has done it extremely well. He is a hero who deserves, and I hope eventually gets, a statue outside of the Palace of Westminster.

The timing, both of his intended departure and the announcement of it, was exquisite. It seemingly gives the current rabble in government no room to avoid a new Speaker who will follow a similar, if not identical, path to Bercow. Well done that man.

It was highly instructive that at the end of his speech yesterday the whole of the House rose to give him, a Conservative MP, a standing ovation. All that is except the Conservatives.

What have the Tories come to that they cannot recognise the really long term importance of the stand that he has made.

Of course he has been criticised for his hectoring manner and accused of bullying his staff by opponents upset at his impact.

None of that matters when the long view in taken. Bercow is someone whose place in history beckons and maybe in time more will understand why.

The ends justifying the means is not a valid excuse for bullying staff. It’s the reason given by every two bob workplace tyrant.

Of course not. I am not defending bullying. Which Bercow has denied by the way, so we ought not judge him on that score just yet. I am putting that in the context of his bigger contribution to the functioning of our democracy.

He jumped before he was pushed as Andrea Leadsom had already said that the Conservatives intended to run a candidate against him at the General Election

That was just window dressing by people angry that their schemes had been thwarted!

Bercow had announced months ago that this would be his last Parliament so he was never going to stand anyway.

Deciding to leave on Oct 31st was a master stroke of timing, as was announcing it on the day Parliament was due to be prorogued.

The bloke cant be trusted. The sooner we are rid the better.

The speaker should be beyond reproach and should certainly not be peddling their own agenda.

You have an odd definition of "window dressing"

There were rumours that Bercow intended to retire in June but when the time approached he denied that he had ever thought about resignation and he announced his resignation yesterday knowing that he was about to be booted out anyway

Unless and until what he has been accused of has been fully investigated we should give him, as everyone, the benefit of the doubt. Mud slinging exists in Parliament just as much as elsewhere.

He has not been "peddling his own agenda". He has been doing his job of ensuring that Parliament is sovereign. His own current agenda is unknown, but in the past he was staunchly on the right wing of the Tory party.
