He denied everything, changed his story multiple times, hasn't apologised and even went so far as to claim players were conspiring against him. I am fairly certain that had he not behaved in this way after the fact the ban would have been shorter, possibly even suspended. Regardless of whether he meant to be racist or not, if somebody makes a legitimate complaint against you then taking that on board and trying to understand their grievances is a far better course of action than blaming other people.

Guess it comes down to what context it’s used, I.e was it derogatory.

Certain phrases are deemed derogatory whilst others aren’t.

To abbreviate an Australian they become an Aussie which is fine.

Do this to someone from pakistan and you’re in all kids of trouble.

Australian's refer to themselves as Aussie's, they don't find it offensive, and it isn't used as a term of abuse.

That cannot be said for pakistani's, or the abbreviation which you are referring to.

That's the point that Tom made

You're quite right, having re read his post I've misinterpreted what he was saying.

Beardsley himself seems to believe he was stitched up. If you say to kids that they should be used to climbing trees - why is that racist to black kids? Are we all so thick we think that black kids in Britain come from the jungle? And as for monkey - I take my kids (well used to) to a play center called monkey business.
I tend to think there may have been a massive over reaction here. Beardsley had never been trained to never say monkey or trees in case a kid he didn't select tried to accuse him of racism. Beardsley probably guilty of naivety.

your logic is unimpeachable - say if he had called a white player a n*gger nobody would be complaining, of course not, quite right

I seem to remember him talking in interviews from the past. Thinking more about it, I'm surprised any of the kids could understand him. Dalglish was the funniest.
Not sure he was using the NWA word - even he wouldn't be that dumb. I'm trying to remember who got away with Negretto though - think it was Suarez to Evra. I disliked Evra at the time so guess I pretty much didn't care. I also couldn't stand Suarez. But we got one on him. Don't think we ever won against Evra unless he played the League cup game where Ambrose scored.
On Beardsley just offering an opinion from what little I know. Racism seems to be the new focus of so much football reporting.
I've been to hundreds of games but can't really remember any racism. Palace always have seemed to have a lot of black players so that could be a factor.
I don't remember monkeys chants and bananas but maybe I've just not been looking hard enough.

2 bedrooms? Probably just as well there was an outside boy. Must’ve been like a turnstile at 2.55.
