“All” the near-post goals? How many is that as he’s only played 28 times and had a fair few clean sheets.
I think they are both good keepers but VG shades it for me, because, in part, the defence looks and feels more confident with him in behind them. He’s also a more agile keeper and seems to have better levels of concentration.
I mean no disrespect to WH by that statement as I don’t get too nervous if he’s on the team sheet. VG is just a better keeper in my opinion.

I'm not always convinced Wayne wants to play anymore. He looks happier and more relaxed when he knows he's on the bench. The fans have never really been on his side and the way he spoke to the press about the fans a while back made him sound a bit depressed.

Vicente has been solid this season and his positioning has been excellent. Sometimes I think there are communication issues with the defence, but that seems to happen with most keepers. For me Wayne is fine as backup, but he is no longer fighting for a first team place.

To me, Guaita and Cahill are so far, the only two players to compete for Player of The Year award.
WH is all right, but our whole defence seems a lot more confident with the Spaniard behind the sticks.

Read the thread especially a post I made yesterday before you start accusing people like that.

The thing about Guaita is he's not a saint and has made mistakes and nobody says a word. If Hennessy had allowed West Ham's goal to go through his body then he would have been crucified.

Did you know that since Palace have been in the Premier League they have kept 100 clean sheets. Guess who is top of the pile for keeping the most??

I would add Ayew to that list if he keeps his form up

It's early days to be talking about player of the season but I would want James McArthur on the short list. He seems back to his best and stood in brilliantly for Luka at West Ham.

Guaita has really impressed me this season he looks more assured than he did last year and I think that is due to him feeling more settled in a new country. He is much better now at claiming high balls and when he has to punch he gets good distance.

Can't blame him for the West Ham goal it was a good quick strike by Haller at close range not many keepers would have saved that. Yes he has been beaten a few times at his near post but show me a keeper that hasn't in their career, sometimes I think this obsession that keepers shouldn't get beaten at their near post a bit of a myth as if its hit hard and at pace from close in they are hard to stop whatever part of the goal it is.

Working on the clean sheets stats - WH 28 clean sheets in 107 games, so 26.16%

VG is 11 clean sheets out of 28 - so 39.28%

On that basis after 107 games VG would have 42 clean sheets.

So that’s what you can do with statistics.

Fact is with VG we concede less, he saves more and his positional
sense is 100 times better.

The more games you play the less likely to keep clean sheets. One of our best goalies Julian Speroni was with us for ten years and had only 20. Another great Nigel Martyn had 25.
Dont tell me that Guiata is better than those two.

I concur with these comments.

Guaita has always been a good shot stopper but was not that commanding when the ball was in the air but this season he has improved in this area.He is proving to be a very good purchase.

Bien hecho senor Guaita !

I don’t think he is better than those two.

Speroni had 20 in 93, so less than Hennessy but he was a far better keeper.

But Guiata is better than Hennessy, which is the debate.
