First of all the usual condemnation because she is wrong about the fire brigade. But she is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong you think she might be.

But on a wider note, one thing about this Grenfall tragedy and the investigation of the aftermath is this constant attack on the fire-brigade.

Their response was absolutely in line with what the text-book told them. Each flat had a one-hour fire door, so you advise people to remain where they are because you do not want them crowding the stairs as you get your own resources up to the address that has the problem.

Once the scale of the fire became apparent they reacted accordingly and I am sure they would be the first to say that they have learnt huge lessons from it but what they faced that night was unprecedented.

But the actual cause was the cladding. Added to the exterior of the building long after it had been built and long after the agreed procedure for dealing with fires had been established.

Meaning there is only one question to be asked.

Why was it deemed safe on the day before the fire and then a hazard afterwards?

I have only heard it asked the once. They interviewed a man who headed a housing association that had put up similar cladding and had the relevant safety certificates. Asking why it was deemed safe one day and not the next. That is where the issue lies.

These attacks on the fire-brigrade are quite bizzare. Should they be beyond criticism? Of course not. And I am sure that their response would be different should similar happen. But this was a one off. An event that nobody had anticipated. And caused by the cladding. Cladding that had all the correct little triangles on the labelling.

Why? I accept that I am perhaps a little paranoid but something stinks about this and this attack on the fire brigrade on the grounds of race (and this is not the first time) sets all sorts of alarms ringing (no pun intended).
