What a lot has happened in the last week!

Johnson's "deal" failing in Parliament resulting in his do or die deadline being missed. Although he didn't, unsurprisingly, die in his promised ditch.

So now we have an election which I think is the most important of my lifetime as the very future of our country as a united kingdom depends upon it.

On top of that we have had Halloween, an event which has seen the re-emergence from the shadows of the "News/Politics section of the HOL's" own ghoulie. Having thrown his toys out of the pram for a while he wasn't missed as there were plenty of others with just as extreme views able to step in. Great timing though!

The "Brexit" thread has long been a disappointing and depressing read, as it is so dominated by fixed hard right opinions unable to consider alternative viewpoints and just looking for those opinions which confirm their own bias.

This thread looks as though it will be even worse as tribal politics and personal insults are ramping up to even higher levels.

I long gave up any hope of a reasoned debate here let alone of converting anyone to my viewpoint. I fully accept that people are entitled to their opinions, irrespective of how wrong I think they are. There has always been a significant group of hard right, Euro-sceptic types among us. They are just disproportionately represented here. It's not the same elsewhere where more fertile ground, and open minds, can be found.

Posting here might be amusing as it can expose the nonsensical positions that such people hold but amusement is of little value in the coming weeks.

So my efforts will now be concentrated elsewhere, in places where minds can be changed. You might not have noticed but that started a few days ago and will now increase. Insults here will be ignored. I will take a peek from time to time and counter anything really outrageous but I will be active, as my time allows, in other more productive ways. After all we only have a few weeks to save the UK.

OK, point out where in the Lisbon Treaty it says that a EU army will be formed!

I think you will find it rather specifically says that it won't. but you can prove me wrong.

This will be interesting!

Indeed I fall into this category. An ERG "Spartan" content to adopt a "Nonsensical position" (Your phrasiology) with no intention of changing my mind as you have no intention of changing yours.

Indeed,a fixed opinion unable to consider alternative viewpoints and just looking for those opinions which confirm your own bias. This is fine as we all have firm views, but I really don't think it is right and proper to accuse others, in negative terms, of adopting a similar stance.

Apropos "Few weeks to save the UK", straight from the Labour manifesto of yesteryear in relation to the NHS and they continue with their scaremongering hogwash as they have nothing positive to spout. In actual fact few years to save the UK from this zombie, sclerotic Parliament hell-bent on preventing Brexit.

I wish you well concentrating your efforts elsewhere where "Fertile minds" can be changed and you will spend your time in more "Productive ways".Time will tell of course if rhetoric matches reality and you really disappear into the ether. I can assure you my "Fertile" mind will not be changed, I am "Gummed" to my position.

You really are the most patronising person I think I have read.
You're sense of self importance knows no bounds.

You bang on about other people being blind to other views..and yet you are by far the worst culprit of this.

So as WE dons his cape and flies off to save the UK by being disliked at other sites I'm sure most of us here will join me in giving him a most appropriate salute as he goes.

I think we can guess that it won't exactly be V for victory.

If two fingers were good enough for stalwart English longbowmen back in the day, they're good enough now!

Wisbech Ego - I'm sure that we will all miss your pithy insights and lengthy lectures but our gain is someone else's loss
