not sure I do either - Scottish take outs seem to mean turning exotic food into some kind of pudding - fish and chips for me cheaper if you have your own tinned mushy peas and pickled onions indoors even better, get my rubies delivered, quarter of a crispy duck with pancakes plum sauce stripped scallions and cucumber goes down very nicely with a bottle of merrydown and a 'strangers in the night'(dooby dooby doo) I find

I am fast approaching 67 so I have had considerable experience of life and have traversed the globe.I certainly haven't head of the term 'Take-out' to describe food ordered to be consumed outside of the premises where it has been prepared and I have always used the term 'Take-away' in this context.

In actual fact I have used the words "I would like to order a take-away for collection" to distinguish from a take-way to be delivered.

As far as I am concerned I don't buy a "Take-out" I buy a "Take-away" !!

Perhaps a "Take-Out" has been used on occasions to describe a "Date" as in meeting a person one is attracted to.

I'm not sure what being close to 67 or having traversed the globe has to do with never having heard the expression takout out before as it's quite conceivable that a 16 year old who has never been outside the boundaries of his home town uses the term regularly.

I'm not sure whether you are au fait with modern developments like the internet but there is a marvellous program on the internet called Google and if you insert the word takeout into Google it will come up with a multitude of responses including the major food delivery firm Uber Eats under their heading "Get a Takeout with Uber Eats | Easy Ordering, Fast Delivery‎"
