So now heres a dilemma for greta.
Batteries need cobalt.
DRC is where its mined with child labour and pretty Orwellian working conditions.
I'm sure ethics would mean probably avoiding buying from there.
Well the next best place is the bottom of the sea in rocks and boulders.
So now to clean the air we need to wreck the sea.
Mining the sea floor with whopping great hoovers destroying life and centuries old formations.
Maybe climate change experts can square that circle.

Here you go, knock yourself out.

Looks like progress but 300 charges!
Makes a car quite expensive doesnt it.
Knock yourself out too!

You did understand the part where it explained that even at this stage of development it costs a tiny fraction of the price of other batteries? That’s always the problem with you right wing fruit loops, science is so difficult for you. Ah well, the world moves on, do try to keep up.

Not the point I was making.
The price of the battery doesnt make it any cheaper on the environment if the car does 100 miles per charge and then it costs 10k to get rid of the batteries.
Age degrades batteries and many EV are built around them so not like changing your torch batteries.
Typical left wing. If it fits let's take it as literal.
Throw away cars, yup that's sensible.

This is a fundamental problem and we have a level of denial over it, but regardless it will gradually over time impose itself as the issue that really matters. At that time the politics and opinion this way or that will take a back seat.

It's a unique challenge and society and nations aren't typically structured in such a way that we are uniformly doing anything about it with any particular haste until we feel that there is no alternative. We have moved away from man on the moon mindset big ideas, and inhabit a comfortable yet uninspired state, where wealth is pointlessly squirreled away by an ever smaller percentage of the population and we just bicker between ourselves. Those are the roles we've assumed.

Well we already have electric vehicles that can go well over 300 miles between charges and I would expect that recycling is a major
influence on design now unlike the good old days. Why are right wingers always such negative wussies? Anyway you were right about one thing, it would be sensible to get rid of cars.

What car? did a test of e cars last month.
A real world test. The sort where you use radios, heaters/cooling and other such drains on power over a varied test route.
The best mileage achieved was 259 miles.
I'm no mathematics genius but that is a long way short of "well over 300 miles".
Then nyou have re charge time.
Factor in the cost and ev's have a way to go yet.

Fair point, if you go with ‘real world’ testing then there’s a few that come in around 260/270 which is still way above the 100 miles the earlier poster was quoting.

Also nowhere near the way over 300 you quoted either.
Another thing is the drop off in battery performance after a few years. It falls off a cliff.
They are not ready to take over from the ICE yet by a long way.

As we dive into winter again and the first snows have fallen on The British isles, i know that if i got stuck overnight in a car in freezing conditions there is no way i would want to be in an ev. ICE wins that argument hands down.

Right wingers? I get the desire for small government low taxes few barriers to commerce and conservative values and the attempt to check modern trends to somehow keep the world as you perceive it. I don't always agree but I do get the standpoint.

On climate change I do not get it. In the US ok as the fossil fuel industry is thick with the Christian right whose innate low intelligence makes them highly susceptible to the sort of cod scientific bollox they are fed. They hold the genuine belief that climate change is a fiction the invention of the Chinese etc as they are not clever enough to know better.

However what's your excuse? Why do you so readily grasp anything that runs counter to Exxon business interests as if they were the dominant factors.

Take the cobalt mining point. Probably true. However technology is young and the ingredients may eventually switch to synthesised elements. In the meantime if you ask the population of the relevant countries as a whole I bet most would on balance take poor work conditions for their miners over floods and drought that destroy their crops and cause their children to starve.

Climate change is all but universally acknowledged as the biggest danger facing our world. A damn site more important than the health service Brexit immigration et al and obviously so.

So why is anti green politics still the mantra of the conservative right?

WHY?

Actually a fair question.

I berate the left when they complain about the flag of St George as being racist, it's their flag as well and if they flew it with pride at their demos it would not be the property of the right.

I guess the same applies to climate change which is currently dominated by left leaning people so their solutions are those of the left. I am not a climate change denier and your are correct the right should be able to make a case for climate change that doesn't involves spending billions in taxes and forcing people back to the middle ages.

I think this is slowly starting to happen, in the this election all mainstream parties ate making pledges. So your correct it is up to other to wrest the subject from being the exclusive domain of the left and denying it doesn't exist probably won't get the job done.
