I just realised the Sport Personality of the Year is being held in Aberdeen this year. No doubt the BBC has told the several hundred celebrity guests to pay their own travel fare and accommodation. Most of them will probably be coming from the south east so let's have it in Aberdeen, why not...

They are probably based north of the border, Or is this all a hideous left wing plot to subvert the nation into thinking the Scottish nation are somehow not all kilt wearing under garment dodging revolutionaries?

In addition they'll be the staff in front and back of the cameras all of these people will need to be transported, housed fed and watered at the taxpayers expense. It's true that the BBC is selling tickets but how many are they giving away to their friends. I admit to not being a fan of the show I don't like self congratulatory programs so I never watch this or the Oscars etc. I hope someone forces the BBC to reveal how much it costs I think the public would be shocked.

Oh dear the BBC funded film Blue Story which is about rap and gang violence was the source of the violence at the Birmingham cinema. Its based on the real life experience of the director around Lewisham. Who'd have thought that a movie about that culture would have inspired so much violence, well pretty much most people actually. If you go looking for a gas leak with a match what do you expect? I know that the BBC believes in equality and inclusiveness catering for all demographics but does that have to extend to gangsters as well. I mean do they actually pay their TV licences? Okay I am being a little tongue in cheek and whoever is responsible for the violence it's a bit harsh to blame the BBC. Still the point is made, not all cultures are worthy of celebration.

They have got BBC Scotland, maybe they'll use those staff and their facilities up there, and the hotels for guests , if they do pay for them will probably be cheaper than central London, won't they ?

I agree, being a trade union official (or lefty in HOL speak,) we have taken our annual conference out of London in recent years and it reduces costs - venue, hotel, delegate costs the lot by over 50% Used to spend lots of time in Aberdeen aa well since the slow down in Oli prices have dropped considerably. Still at least now I also know that watching Sports personality of the year is a political statement.
