There’s nothing I like more than reading a good political biography (don’t judge) and this week I’m dipping into Neville Chamberlain’s Legacy - Hitler, Munich and The Path to War.

It’s a sympathetic study of a painfully shy individual who was massively vilified for his unsuccessful policy of appeasement towards Hitler in the run-up to the 1939-45.

As with all these sorts of books, I’m on the look-out for any indications that their subjects were fans of football - preferably Palace.

As far as I can make out, neither Chamberlain, nor Churchill, nor Hitler had the slightest interest in the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if all three went through their whole lives without attending a single match.

Perhaps they thought it beneath their dignity to be seen enjoying themselves in the ranks of the common man.

It was really only in the 1960s, after Harold Wilson announced he was a Huddersfield fan, that politicians (Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May excepted) decided that football might be ‘cool’ and that declaring an interest might be a vote winner.

Blair (Newcastle), Cameron (Villa) and Brown (Cowdenbeath) have ‘come out’, Corbyn purports to follow Arsenal and Farage reckons to be a Palace supporter.

Which are the clubs,if any, that Johnson and Swinson are most likely to support?

In some ways there is a similarity between Chamberlain and Corbyn. Some might argue it is decency others nativity. Chamberlain loved this country did not want another horrific world war like a lot of his generation. He genuinely believed that Hitler was all noise and could be reasoned with, Hitler thought he was a useful fool and as long as he got what he wanted he would sign any paper Chamberlain put in front of him.

I can see Corbyn getting walked all over by other world leaders.

Johnson looks like a rugger fan but I will go Chelsea. Swinson has to be Forest Green Rovers as they are the only environmentally friendly football (and never going to win anything).

Michael Foot was a Plymouth fan and Neville Chamberlain, as well as PM, also played for Stoke.

Theresa May was a great cricket fan and the day after she ceased to be PM she was to be seen at the Test Match

Boris supports his own club. The one in his trousers.

If he did have a football club whilst having no interest in the game, it would be Chelsea, it always is.

He was originally a Fulham fan if you believe the rumours.

I think Jack Straw and Tim Farron both support Blackburn.
Margaret Thatcher was made Honorary Vice-President of Blackburn.
New speaker Lindsay Hoyle is a Bolton supporter.
David Gaucke supports Ipswich.

Things have got so bad that I really cannot bring myself to pay attention to football. I often forget these days that this is a football forum and only came over here because the BBS started to look and sound a lot like the Mash Report. I only found out we were playing tonight because I was browsing on Amazon Prime and noticing it was free.

Cameron liked to mix it up mid speech by announcing his support for West Ham.

Same colours!

I believe that Ruth Davidson supports Dunfermline.
I have always thought that Gordon Brown is a Raith supporter.
Roy Hattersley and David Blunkett are both Sheff Wed supporters.
Iain Duncan Smith supports Tottenham.
