Then the bloke does VAR for our game at Southampton two days later! I don't get that.

Also the VAR ref will BE the ref , so , a swop round.

Absolute madness.

Is this the start of officials working in teams? Just a thought

I was at a social event last weekend with a PL assistant referee who is married to a friend of my wife.

He explained to me how the officials are themselves frustrated over how VAR is being used but that they have very strict and precise guidelines to follow. Anything for which there is an element of doubt will default to the onfield referee's original decision unless he missed it completely.

He also told me that the treatment they get at Selhurst is enthusiastically delivered but the food is poor and the facilities spartan.

He also recounted some experiences he has had in Eastern Europe where British referees are sent by FIFA as the local ones are so corrupt. What they do there to try to fix the matches takes some believing.
