He's played a total of 62 minutes of PL football this season and has one goal and one assist, the former earning us a point the latter helping us to three. What more can you expect from an hour's football?

Nothing more, it's great for 60 minutes.

It's still a tiny impact, regardless of how much eagleman gets pissed at me for saying it

In his first season ,24. Appearances 6 goals. 2nd season 10 appearances 3 goals. Then the really serious knee injuries set in, and yet in his rare appearances since then he has still come up with the odd goal . And don’t forget his tally is not made up of a fair few pens. The injury curse aside, scoring at that rate would be a major bonus to us right now.

just watched his equalizer v Norwich again - he deliberately checks his run by digging his toes in the turf just as Zaha crosses the ball to stay fractionally onside, seriously, it was Linekeresque

I thought he looked bulky and well short of match fitness (unsurprising). However, his awareness and presence was good to see, imo, and he showed that he has qualities that are well good enough for first team duty.
Fitness, though, is always the thing. If he was to get anywhere near a sustained run, I think he's a decent player who can score goals.

Whatever our opinion, You'll never see me slag the guy off. he's had a torrid time with his fitness issues and I would never, for a second, charge him with being a waster who's just picking up the wages.

I'm fully behind the lad, come what may.

But better than no impact. If you are unaware he has endured a possible career ending injury. As I have said to you many times before, stats are not everything. Just saying

Please remember that he scored with a stunning header that was our winning goal when we beat Watford 2-1 in the April 2016 cup semi-final. That banks him massive credit!

one or two have touched on what a sort of fit wickham can do,when ever he is on the pitch watch him, were he stands, how he makes space for himself,he does what defenders hate sit on there shoulder, you can not watch the ball and the player hence why when he does play he does cause a problem, but sadly its the injurys that have blacked peoples views

I like Wickham and belive that he's capable of scoring many goals (15-20)a season if fit. Unfortunately I don't think that the fitness issue will be resolved but I hope it is. He can score all types of goals and imagine is difficult to play against.
On a side note, as a proud Herefordian, I was annoyed by the MOTD highlights commentary. They showed him coming on and described him as 'Ipswich born Connor Wickham'....... He was actually born 211 miles away in Hereford!

Seriously mate, can you actually see CW scoring 20 goals in a single season? Not in the prem.

If he got fit and stayed injury free (which in itself would be incredible) I think the most he could get would be 7 or 8 and I think that’s pushing it.

The figures quoted earlier are that, spread over two seasons, he has scored 34 goals in 9 appearances so 20 is probably pushing it but even a 10 goal a season striker would be nice.

I agree that he showed good instincts, being in the right place at the right time, for his goal at Norwich. I criticise Benteke less than most but when did he last score a goal of that sort (or indeed any sort)?

I don't agree with criticisms of Mattteo's posts, they may not be everyone's cup of tea but at least he doesn't resort to personal insults at the drop of a hat. If there is one poster I'd gladly see the back of it's grumpymort who as far as I can recall has never posted anything positive. If only we had an 'ignore' option.

Remember the season when Wickham started every time he was fit , thought that he would never ever get a chance like that for any team in the top league again. I don’t think he will. He wasn’t good enough back then, a game here and there looked decent, but not consistent.that was before the injuries.
He scored against Norwich, but the miss in the game before, should have been buried.
Gabbiadinni would be welcome in the current set up, but Wickham isn’t good enough.

At least Wickham was in the right place, in the centre of the goal to convert Zaha's cross.Benteke would have been hiding at the back post.

Agree with this... Alan Shearer has picked up on it several times on MOTD over the last couple of seasons... If you watch Benteke closely he does indeed hide in the box.
