Considering our current injury crisis, what Luca did was totally irresponsible and frankly not worthy of a captain. It was the act of a very frustrated player. The guy needs help from a sports shrink fast. His actions have really worsened our position.
I hope Roy has the strength to deal with this. Poor chap will really be under pressure now.

I agree with a lot of comments about this years performances however we will miss him. In a way he is a bit like Cabaye in that you won’t realise how much you miss him until he isn’t playing.

I'm looking forward to seeing what a fully fit Kouyate does at the base of our midfield. I have high hopes. The question is whether we can cobble a defence together that doesn't need him.

My heart goes out to Kelly. He'd be great at the heart of defence for a team like Norwich. At full back, his form us deserting him.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Maybe he has something going on in his personal life. He just doesn't seem himself in any way. He has lost that passion he had for the club.
Maybe it's down to the clubs lack of ambition, players react to that sort of thing.

I had a clear view and assumed they were both going to be off for kicking each other, Luka was never going to stay on after attempting a headbutt. Huddlestone was very luck not to be sent off. The only thing wrong was the length of time it took.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hasn't been good since becoming captain. He's coasting along now, safe and secure in his position, nice recent contract renewal too.

Was brilliant when he first arrived but now he's a lazy f***.

His passing has been poor and he has made too many errors many of which thankfully have gone unpunished; however, I would not accuse him of being lazy. Last season after 26 games only Kante had covered more ground than him [Link]

Something is definitely different about him though and he is lucky not to have been sent off at least once before yesterday. McCarthy looks very tenacious and I think could do a good job of breaking up play, plus he has an understanding with McArthur. If Kouyate is able to start in central midfield I don't know how big a loss Luka will be as although he breaks up a lot of play increasingly it is with fouls. If PvA is still out then it'll be interesting to see who is on set-piece duty. Hopefully a few games in the stands will revitalise him. He's such a great character I'd hate to see him disappear.

I also think McCarthy had a good game vs Derby

The red card might just save Luka's season because his form has been poor this season, his attitude has been even worse. Perhaps the suspension will give him the time out he seems to need

If McCarthy plays well he deserves to keep his place in the 1st team.

McCarthy, Kouyate and McArthur are fine together. The squad needs the addition of some pace and technique this window.

Paper talk that we are appealing Luka's red card I hope that is not correct.

The referee initially booked him then looked at VAR and upgraded it to a red. I can't see any appeals panel overriding that decision.

If it had been a straight red with no VAR you could argue that there was a lot going on and the referee got in wrong. It's hard to argue that based on my comments above.

We should just take it on the chin.

If the appeal goes against us he could get an increased ban of 2 matches. Mind you having someone else take corners and free kicks for 2 games is something that is quite appealing

Personally I don't think we should appeal, but according to the papers it is because Palace are going to cite four similar instances in the PL which were deemed not red card offences. Being cynical it is possible they are doing this to delay the suspension in the hope we can either get some more players fit, or sign some. If we do appeal the suspension may be delayed until after the weekend.

With our increasingly depleted squad, it's hard to envisage who that "someone else" could be.

And what sort of cockamamy system is it that actually penalises you further if you lose an appeal, FFS?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Yeah it is strange how you get an extra game ban if you lose an appeal but then the FA are a pedantic lot they probably issue it out of spite for taking up their time
