The drawback of desperately trying to keep him here and aspire (to something we were never gonna be) was buying benteke and Sahko for fees would could not afford on wages we still cannot afford, therefore getting us into the current financial $hite we are clearly in now.

The owners mortgaged the club in a gamble around keeping wilf here and trying to build something around him.

It failed unfortunately.

Leicester have done it and are still attempting to make it more a more consistent affair but, we cannot really include them into the hall of fame which is Man.U, Man.C, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool, no one is going to become them, no one ...they will never allow it. We are at this moment enjoying our only real comfortable time in this league, we are not looking towards the bottom ..we have hit the roof of our bubble lets enjoy it.

I hope Wilf stays forever but taking the sentiment out of it how much would we want to pay for him if he played for another club? Assuming we could afford £80m would we be happy paying it?

If we had the financial backing and transfer acumen of Leicester we could have done it, but we have neither.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Sold to utd for £15 mill..loaned back..got us promoted.
Bought back for 10 mill.?
4/5 seasons in prem? Wouldn't say single handedly but contributed a great to this current stay in the prem.

Has played within himself this season( all be it with no creative support)

Hes going this month, or in the summer.

His value ( to potential buyers) is going down.

I speculate that we will get 40-50 mill + honours add ons.

So circa 65 mill in minus the 10 we paid utd for him minus another 15 for sell ons to utd = 40 mill.

£40 mill net plus his input in getting us into the prem and staying there.

Is that really so bad for an academy product?

Sorry if that seemed complicated but the 40 mill net bit is the key.

Good post and a good summary!

Time to let him go. £65m with a net £50m to us should be achievable.
I don’t think a 30 year old Wilf would be good for us. Let him go and realise his dream.

The last two seasons Leicester have got it right and made some great signings, covered in large part by the sales of Mahrez, Drinkwater and Maguire. However, they did waste a lot of money on players like Slimani, Mendy, Musa and Iborra too (albeit they did recover a sizeable chunk on most of these players). It is key that when Zaha goes we have a coherent transfer strategy in place and are not running around like an episode of supermarket sweep on transfer deadline day (as appears to be the case in most windows). Most clubs have signed some expensive flops, but for me we really need to be looking at younger players when Wilf needs replacing and ones with potential rather than marquee signings. Maybe if Wilf stays until the summer we could even look at giving Pierrick more game time to see if he can play a bigger role next season.

The more I hear the less likely I think it is Wilf will leave this month, especially with us having only 9 fit outfield players at the moment, but with his new 'super agent' it seems very unlikely he'll be here after the summer.

And now it seems Bayern want him on loan! [Link]

I'd take £50m plus for him but I can't see anyone paying it. He hasn't played well this season with a reluctance to take players on - fear of injury perhaps? - although he has improved recently as the window has got nearer! The worry would be that either that money would just disappear wherever the AWB funds went, or if Roy was given some to spend he'd just waste it on more 30+ PL rejects on huge salaries with no resale value. Personally I'd offer Hull a sum they couldn't refuse for Bowen.

Evening Standard website reports that we have rejected a loan offer from Bayern Munich for Wilf.

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.

It's very difficult to know what's true and what is either media speculation or agent speak. Some media are saying that Chelsea are unwilling to pay him the £200,000 per week that he is demanding and if that's true I would imagine it would put off almost all clubs.

Does he want to move to play Champions League football or is he just a greedy sod who can't live adequately on a mere £130,000 per week

I would guess that Parish is still laughing at that derisory offer as it's even worse than Arsenal's offer of four and sixpence back in the summer

Bayern you cheeky b******s. They can have him on loan, if we can have Lewandowski on loan in return.

He does give 10% of his wages to charity though, so greedy or not he would not be the only winner of a salary increase.
