Rubbish, that is fluke A somewhat dogmatic opinion given it is only opinion. I feel it is progress too. Slow organic growth within the rules and relatively manageable although the budget hole and wage bill are concerning. Given the latter the management are well within their rights to carry on and ignore the demands of fans to spend profligately and become the next pompey.

We'll just have to carry on much as we are doing for a few more years until the finances improve. so i have been looking on [Link] website about our transfer spending since promotion and it turns out weve spent £130m net since promotion averaging approx £20m a season given weve already had one window this season. it breaks down to approx... 13-14 -£30m so looking at the facts, the club has spent £130m net on transfers and still made a small profit over a 7 season period for me during that time we have turned from almost certainty for a relegation dogfight to not being involved in the bottom 3 for 18 months. to put it into perspective, fulham last season & villa this have pretty much spend what we have spent in 7 seasons in 1 season, 1 went down and the other looking likely to do so. compare our accounts to a lot of teams and parish deserves nowt but praise for the job done over 10 years.

A very interesting post, Thanks for that. Just goes to show, a club our size could easily go the way of a Sunderland or a Bolton with just a couple of bad signings. We got lucky with AWB, otherwise them stats would look a lot worse..

Good read. A complete oversimplification would say we've got the 9th highest wage bill and we are 9th in the league. This looks like our situation point for the time being unless we can find a comparative advange elsewhere. To progress, we will need, a larger matchday income. Which can only really be achieved through stadium improvements We also need a way of lowering the wage bill, bring through more young players, better training facilities/coaches to get more out of what we have. Better scouting network to find better deals. Otherwise we are pretty much stuck, being stuck at your optimum level with the resources you have is a massive achievement. Especially when you look at all the massive clubs below us, not just those above us.

I think you are entirely correct which is why the investment in Selhurst and the Academy is so critical. Equally, it is is entirely understandable that any spending will be minimal and very prudent.

Absolutely, in these days of crazy transfer prices and player wages, clubs like ours need to invest in our academy and attract better younger players for development through to our own first team. it is inevitable that some of such academy players will end up at one of the bigger clubs in the EPL.
