Injuries are down to an ageing squad and lack of subs. He's had years to sort that out, but hasn't because it would mean taking a risk.

When you see how well Reidewald has played it makes you wonder why he hasnt given him or Mayer of Camarasa a run in the team? Or why Ayew didn't get a look in last season. Even Sorloth is now top scorer in Turkey (with a better record than Cenk had).

Totally agree. Risk averse, in what is a fairly poor league this season. Guaita and VAR must have saved us at least 8 points, which equates to bottom 3 material.
Frankly, to not have one shot on target or even one corner at home, injuries or no injuries, is a f***ing disgrace.

Our current league position flatters us beyond belief. Hopefully what will save us from relegation this year is three worse teams. However having said that, given that there aren’t three worse teams than us, perhaps three less lucky teams will save us.

When you look at Villa Norwich, Burnley, Brighton, Watford, Southampton, Newcastle Bournemouth and West Ham I can’t find 3 teams worse than us and the worrying stat is that they are all starting to win matches. 38 points won’t be enough this year. 40 points is the minimum.

I think we'll finish a lot closer to the relegation zone than the top 6. We've played poor pretty much all season and have been lucky sneaking late goals. We set up to not lose, even at home when the emphasis should be on us to try and win.

With a much needed break that will rest the players who played basically 8 matches in a month, and with a few more players coming back from injury we'll be on 40 points by mid March.

Ray Lewington said some months ago that Roy always plays the same way regardless of the opposition.
The implication seemed to be that this simplified the game for the players and they had no excuses for not knowing their roles.
Problem is that it also simplifies the game for the opposition and there is no danger of them being confused or surprised by our tactics.
I’ve heard of the expression protecting a lead.
Under Hodgson we seem to play to protect a 1-0 loss when we fall behind.
Bizarre.

Il just be curious to see the reactions of people if we do push on when players are fit and end up in a European spot.

If we get into a European place even I , as a Hodgson sceptic, will be acclaiming him as our greatest manager!

Dyed in the wool Palace fan, but loved what Southampton did last night. No star players, massive wages etc. Just a very well coached side. Passed well, moved the ball quickly, chased and shut everything down, 2 or 3 players on top of anyone dawdling on the ball. They could have played all night and Palace would not have scored. Very well coached.

Palace set up with the same players, tactics and approach for Southampton at home as we did for Man City away at the weekend. We got lucky then, we got found out last night.

The excuse that the players are tired applies to Southampton as well - just did not look like it last night.

Southampton are very lucky to have Hassenhutl, Roy unfortunately has taken us as far as he is able.

An interesting concept. To be eligible for a spot would mean winning games to climb the league. To win games you need to score goals. We are currently the lowest scorers.
Conclusion: unlikely.

I have some sympathy with Gribbo’s view - and not just based on last night.
We have struggled all season as an attacking force and for Hodgson to hide behind the injuries is not to my mind a valid excuse.
Earlier in the season with Schlupp, Townsend and Benteke available we still looked toothless in attack and still played with ten behind the ball.
When Roy has taken the handbrake off against Villa and Liverpool (oddly) we have looked all the better for it.
His negativity is so frustrating, and I can see where those who claim it is ‘anti football are coming from.’

But Southampton are not carrying the same amount of injuries as Palace. As a dyed in the wool Palace fan surely you must realise this has made a difference to our performances. How did we get lucky at City, the team played really well and RH tactics were excellent.

You need to see the whole game not the highlights. City missed a bag of chances in the first 15 minutes, and if they had fouled Wilf up the pitch, as Guardiola had coached them to do, then they would not have given up the equaliser in stoppage time. Pep was livid in his post-match comments about this very point.

No shots on target, no corners last night. I would suggest more than just tired.

Don't accept the injuries argument. 2 of the subs we brought on last night are on over £50k per week - Wickham and Meyer were adjudged to be top players when we brought them in.
