Any points we have got this season we have deserved. Just because we dont have 40 shots on target and 80% percent possesion doesnt mean we have been lucky. There is more than 1 way to win a football game and if you score more goals than your opposition you deserve to win.

I do agree with that to a point. Although, This year seems more like decisions have gone our way than in previous seasons. In the Past we've been moaning about a refs call, this year we've benefited from them. Where we've nicked a draw or win, in seasons past, these would have been Consolation goals, and wouldn't have garnered as many points.

We don't dominate teams - We've played well occasionally, but rarely for a whole match. Our performances are spoke of as 'hard fought' or 'Spirited'. Our defensive displays - as good as they have been this year are often last ditch, backed up by a goalkeeper who is in a great vein of form.

Long may this continue, as it is currently working for us(and is Hodgsons doing), although if any of these things go missing, then we'll be in trouble as we do not have the quality to fall back on. Quite Frankly this is unsustainable, and continuing to play the game like this will only end one way.

Do some of you want Premier League football?? It is a genuine question because the moaning about Roy Hodgson is becoming pathetic. Have you not learnt from other clubs examples such as Stoke. They had a Manager who had kept them in the PL for ten years but their fans started to moan non stop about their style of football so the Chairman panicked and sacked Tony Pullis. Take a look where they are now, just above the trapdoor in the Championship. Not quite as bad was the Arsenal fans hounding Wenger out and they, based purely on league points, are no better than us now.

Be careful what you wish for.

Regards my own position, I am not heaping ordure on Hodgson whom I believe has performed an admirable job keeping us in the PL with limited financial backing.

I like others, justifiably are less than enamoured at our style of play but as I have asserted on more than one occasion, his objective is to preserve the club's PL status and this has been achieved and possibly will be achieved this season as well.I have also asserted that Norwich play an open, expansive brand of football and they are rock bottom.

If,as expected by many, we survive, the end justified the means will apply and as supporters lap up the sun on a beach in the summer, the lack of entertainment will be forgiven!

I don't think that will happen. Hodgson had the best players in England to choose from and by the end they were the worst England side I've ever seen. Negative side to side all behind the ball knock it up to Kane and hope he does something football - sound familiar? If history is repeating itself Hodgson will be gone next season.
Succession management Mr Parish!

It's worth remembering that Hodgson racked up on of The best qualifying records in English history on the way to that World Cup.
For some reason it all went tits up at the tournament. Sound Familiar?

I think we need to build the squad before handing it over to a new manager. The best way to do that - with the least risk - is under hodgsons stewardship.

Looking at the wider picture Hodgson is in his 70s and probably thinking about a well earned retirement. What then? The squad is ageing and needs rejuvenating. Perhaps there is a plan in place for Roy to keep us safe in the PL by whatever footballing means necessary and plans are afoot for his successor and bright prospect youngsters. We can but hope, because the present format is unsustainable.

For me it boils down to whether the only way for us to stay in the hallowed Premier League is by being ultra defensive, rarely committing players forward and hoping the opposition has an off day?
I think our squad is capable of more and would like to see us try to play a bit more on the front foot while still remaining solid.
Surely we have enough good defenders to enable us to try this , and to my mind we only need to play very defensively against Man City and Liverpool as there are not really any other outstanding teams at the moment.

Returning to the match on Tuesday, obviously it was one we earmarked as winnable.
However I thought Southampton played the best I've seen from an opposition team at Selhurst this season. They were quicker than us and more slick. They had their shooting boots on as well. Even in the 90th min they were pressing Tomkins and Cahill, giving us no time. It was the sort of performance we could be capable of. As alluded to on here we need a creative midfielder willing to take a shot, such as Redmond.
Let's write it off, we must try for 4-6 points from the next 3 games. The last 3 home fixtures are scary, let's hope we are safe by then!

We play the way we do because Hodgson is the manager and these are his tactics, injuries or not. I don't see the teams in and around us employing such negative tactics, and they are doing fine with similar strength squads as ours.

It is when we have 11 first team players out. Our squad is capable of more and it was proving that before the injuries started to mount up. You can get lucky in some games but a consistent tally of points over half a season is not luck, it’s hard work on the training field and reaping the rewards on game day. It just doesn’t suit your narrative.

You complain about Hodgsons negative, defensive tactics but then go back to the 3-3 game as a benchmark of how we should play. The Palace team was managed by Pulis, one of the most defensive managers in the league, who lumped the ball forward at every opportunity. Were we more exciting then than we are now? 30 points at mid season, I’d say not. In fact we at least try to play football now.

Houghton was manager of Brighton, he was labelled as a boring manager with defensive tactics. Brighton are in the exact same position as they were last season and they play ‘exciting, attractive’ football or maybe we should be more like Norwich, free flowing but leaking goals for fun at the bottom of the league haha.

I’m not using the 3-3 v Liverpool as a benchmark for how we should play.
That’s misrepresenting the point.
What I was saying is that when 3-0 down we at least tried to get back in the game.
We didn’t try and get back in the game against Southampton and for me Hodgson is more about damage limitation.
Under Pulis we left Jerome up front to stretch the defence with Chamakh playing off him and Puncheon and Bolassie on the wings.
We were direct but at least got the ball forward quickly and looked to threaten defences.
We also looked threatening at set pieces.
There was a points analysis that revealed that at Palace Pulis has a better points ratio per game than Hodgson .
I say this without being a particular fan of Pulis who ultimately let the club down.
Your view is that Hodgson is great which is fine and I’m not seeking to change your view.
My view is that he’s not so great which I also think is fine.

This is exactly the reason why I keep saying Hodgson is an OK manager but not a miracle worker.

Since BFS he's lost Cabaye, and gained a load of average players to bolster the squad. Arguably, he kept us up in his first season with our best squad ever. We've not replaced Cabaye but we've had Reideweld, Mayer, and Camarasa, who he's not give a chance too.

Having done a fairly rough and ready and not particularly scientific analysis of the forums on the subject of Hodgson I have to conclude that I’m in a significant minority in my views.
His players (other than Glen Johnson) ,the pundits and the majority of fans see something in him that is lost on me.
I feel like the insane one in a sane world.
