Kelly and Ward both try their hardest every game but seems neither is PL quality. Not replacing AWB has left us exposed down the right and every opponent knows this.

If we don't get an upgrade RB this window looks like a less enjoyable second half of the season.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I disagree re Ward.

I think Joel Ward was having a good season until his injury.

Kelly did well for the first few games but ultimately started to struggle.

We need a proper back up / competition for the position. The fact that the club trousered £50m and then failed to do so is bewildering.

We should get a new rb yes, possibly of an age where he can improve and become a regular for the future, that's for sure.
This said, considering that the first 24 matches have been played with ward and Kelly resulting in a 11th place in the table, if we play ward and Kelly for the remaining 14 matches I expect an 11th position in the table for the 2nd half of the season.

wrong expectation. the other teams have a) been studying us all season and now know our weaknesses better, b) all other teams below and around us have worked to improve their squads or managers. if we dont fix right back, chances are we aregoing down. thank me later.

The club did not trouser £50m. That money is not available for a number of reasons. Firstly, I don't think we've been making too much profit every season with our sizeable wage bill, so much of that cash will offset deficits. This is obvious and the hierarchy understands the need to spend, but it is still a factor.

The club is also planning to upgrade the academy to Grade 1 status and the plans look pretty ambitious with a fair bit of funding required.

Also, our approach is tentative because in this day and age clubs can hold us to ransom for their best players (we did the same with AWB). The strategy is complicated I would imagine and would involve careful scouting to minimise the risk of forking out for a flop. A decent England U21 right back in the Championship could go for upwards of £20m and not cut it in the Premier League.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

We always have to have no players to cover in at least one position - it's the Palace way.

The club have trousered £50mill, wages come from the money awarded by the league not transfer fees hence for.

Yes Ward was playing well. He did take some time to get back to near his best after his previous injury, however, he hasn't been out too long this time and hopefully he will be up to speed soon.

The club didn't have £50m to spend from AWB sales as you say, an element of the fee was used to buy Martin Longs shares and repay directors loans.
The issue at right back has been compounded by the injury to Townsend, who offered cover for Ward\Kelly, Kelly seems to be exposed as whoever plays on the right wing Ayew or Meyer don't track back and cover. This in peoples minds makes Kelly a bad player, but he generally has a choice of 2 attacking players now to cover.

And then he did, illustrating the paucity of available options...

I know all about the Academy plans thanks and have written about them on HOL a number of times.

However the club did receive ( if you prefer that term ) £50m and then failed to secure specialist back up at right back. I think you will find the manager had referred to this as an issue on more than one occasion.

And I’m not buying your “ holding to ransom “ theory and you shouldn’t be selling it. Most clubs don’t sell before they have lined up replacements. Palace’s strategy is more about chancing it and hoping ( in this case ) Ward didn’t get injured. They got caught out.
