How are you sure that's what they are? They may be corrupt, lying b'stards for all you know. Or is it that they are "good and honest" because you agree with them?

I watched a lot of the house hearings prior to Trump's impeachment. I have listened to Comey and others who have criticised Trump. I read Trump;s tweets and watch his reactions.

If all his critics are "corrupt, lying b'stards" then they are the best actors I have ever seen. If Trump is innocent of all he has been accused of then the world is upside down.

It has nothing to do with whether I agreed with them or not. I had no knowledge of what they said until they said it. It's only because of the consistency, logic, simplicity and honest style that convinced me they were speaking the truth as they know it.

In the USA I believe you are guilty until proven innocent.
Nothing has stuck so far.
Must be innocent.

Like any con man since time immemorial. If you are willing to believe something, you are going to believe it. "honest style" is how you get sucked into a scam, you believe it, it's honest, so it is the truth. However, you have no evidence that the truth is being spoken.

Credit where credit is due. Any cleverness involved must have been down to his advisers and lawyers since we’ve been repeatedly told Trump is an oaf and buffoon.

Whilst he often behaves like an oaf and a buffoon he is many things beside, none of them good. He is a bully, a narcissist, vindictive and impetuous. To name just a few.

I am quite sure some of his actions have been modified by his lawyers and also by the military men who were originally around him. He has though dumped anyone who represented any kind of threat to him and surrounded himself by sycophants.

Whether there is an overall puppet master who has been behind him from the start, or adopted him as it became possible he would become President and oiled some wheels, is an interesting conspiracy theory. If it was true it would explain a few things.

Impeachment is not a trial which determines guilt.

It is a political process requiring a 2/3rds majority to convict. Trump wasn't proven innocent at all. He just wasn't found guilty. In Scotland that would be described as "not proven".

Nothing sticking yet is hardly a ringing endorsement, or proof of innocence.

You form judgements based on the evidence just as any juror would. One person could have been a great actor and lying through their teeth. Unlikely based on what I observed but just possible. All of them? Not a chance.

The only con man involved is Trump and his base, and you it seems, his willing victims. When he said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and his supporters would still say he didn't do it just proved how indoctrinated they have become, because it's true.

What can stick if you cant be guilty?
Not proven is basically as good as innocent.

To quote a random chap from the past, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time".

It seems he will win a second term in office. That's a lot of people he's fooling if what you believe is correct.

By the way. I don't really worry about US politics. I find it rather overblown. It's all a game to their politicians. Who has the bigger balls/private parts etc. I'm not sucked in like some others.

Incidentally, do you enjoy the Oscar's, or maybe the BAFTA's?

Firstly, and for the umpeenth time, I am no "lefty". I detest left wing politics every bit as much as I do right. The Mueller report found a great deal of evidence which linked Trump's campaign to illegality, and people have been jailed as a consequence. Two things stopped Trump being taken down. Firstly, like many clever criminals, he kept much of the illegality at arms length so that it was the smaller guys who took the hits. Secondly, the stooge of an Attorney General Trump has inserted into the Justice Department, overruled Mueller by saying that a sitting President cannot be indicted. That's why the files are now in the hands of other lawyers in New York awaiting the right opportunity to bring him to justice.

Kavanaugh was another stooge who only escaped not being confirmed because of the sycophantic Republicans. He totally deserved what he was put through and was lucky to escape.

You are another who are living in a parallel reality. The Dems are the good guys in this drama, doing their best to defend the constitution and the rule of law. They bear no resemblance to the last Labour party leadership here. Even Sanders is a moderate in comparison.

The current situation has most certainly NOT been created by the Democrats. It is entirely the work of Trump and the Republicans who are prepared to trade truth and decency for the opportunity to pack the courts with conservative Judges and reduce taxes on the wealthy. The Republican party, with it's long proud record of service has caved in and become the Trump party. It may never recover.

As I don't have any particularly strong preference on who ought to replace Trump the idea that I am supporting "clowns" is ridiculous. I would be happy for anyone with some moral fibre, respect for the constitution and the law, and who commands general support in the USA,to become POTUS, whether they be Republican or Democrat. It's Trump's inappropriateness which most concerns me. If I have any kind of preference it would be for Michael Bloomberg as he has the money to take on Trump without needing to sell his soul to interest groups. He also understands the business world.

Challenging my morality, as one poster has done, is once again attempting to insult me by misrepresenting my views. I regard my moral standards as perfectly sound. I condemn every kind of immoral and behaviour whilst acknowledging the difficult job that has to be done by those who are employed to deal with these matters on our behalf. Contrast that with some of the highly dubious views which are often aired in these threads and it becomes very clear where the balance lies. Maybe though that poster is right not to say too much on the subject. Taking the fifth sometimes is a wise move.

Why are you so bothered about this?

Not proven means exactly what it says.

That no determination has been possible and you are neither guilty or innocent.
