I fully understand how frustrating it is watching a game that quite clearly needs an injection of something from the bench but no I don't think that there is many other options than the team Roy is picking right now. Only argument I would have is for Townsend to start in front of Ayew but then I also understand that Townsend is the only explosive substitution we have available to us right now. Tosun and Benteke haven't both been available for selection at the same time yet so we don't know what will happen there. And do you honestly think that our season will depend upon Pierrick and Meyer? Meyer is a good player, just maybe hasn't adjusted too well and Pierrick is way short of Premier League quality yet.

At the end of the day, Roy see's these players in training day in, day out, he see's the attitude from every single player and then makes an informed decision from the vast footballing knowledge and experience he has to make the best team for each game. It's ludicrous for any of us to assume we know more about football and the current Palace team then him.
There is no benefit for Roy to not pick the best team he has available to him every single Saturday, so why would he purposely pick a sub-standard team?

Sorry, but IMO you are thinking and commenting like Roy. We need someone to bring something else to the table, not more of the same. A second or third helping of crap does not make up for the first helping. Roy is doing what he thinks is best, but they are his tactics and it doesn't mean they are right.

Correct, it doesn't mean that he is right but as he knows the players better than any other manager available right now then why would we sack him?

Also, where was this first helping of crap? We were a great team up until about a month ago, we were sandwiched between Arsenal and Tottenham in 9th place and we've since lost 3 games (4 if you include Derby). Some of the statements that are being banded around about Roy after we've had a bad month of football are just ridiculous. A month may I remind you where we have had the most amount of missing (injuries and suspensions) players than any of the teams around us.

I know some Fulham supporters and they are fulsome of praise for the efforts of Hodgson at their club.

He took over after 20 games when Fulham were in the relegation zone with only 2 league wins from these games.Lewington was in caretaker charge for 3 games before Hodgson took up the reins.Hodgson kept him up that season with Mike Kelly his assistant and Lwington his first team coach.

The following season he led Fulham to a 7th place finish in the PL.The following season he got Fulham to the Europa League final where they were defeated 2-1 by Atletico Madrid. He left Fulham at the end of that season to join Liverpool.

This post has a substantial shareholding in erudition and sagacity.
Jolly well done.

YES My scouse mates stayed in the pub rather than go to the games towards the end; he reduced their gates by 10,000 before they sacked him.

With respect, there was no substantial drop-off in attendances as described.Liverpool regularly got attendances of 40,000+, which was not far off the capacity of Anfield those days.

I accept that in their last home game under his command, against Bolton, they got around 35,500 but to suggest there was a reduction of 10,000 over a series of games is inaccurate.

I personally don't think we have played particularly well for 12-18 months but things worked for us quite well at the end of last season which lifted us significantly up the table. This season we started brightly however I thought we rode our luck in a lot of games and got more out of them than I expected. Barring a couple of performances when we have played superbly we have tried to stifle the opposition into submission and this has led to a series of results which have moved in a downward spiral from wins to draws to losses.

It might turn around and I hope it does, but I think a lot of teams have worked out how to play against Roy's system by harassing our defenders and midfield high up the pitch. Unlike the Liverpools and Man Citys of this world we are simply not good enough to play around it.

My point was more towards the fact that the football club had serious problems at board level, not in the team management. Unfortunately for Roy, the manager is the one who faces the press and gets the headlines. Owners never seem to be accountable, unless of course at West Ham.

If that were a valid reason then no club would ever sack their manager

I know PL status isn't everything but I fancy he's our best shot at preserving ours. If Pochettino wants a 3 year contract with us, okay, thanks for all the hard work, Roy.

But he doesn't. People calling for change so casually must offer a realistic alternative. Because I don't see one.

And don't say Allardyce. He got us out by spending about 36m in one window.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

And I would say that is a fairly reasonable assessment of this season and last season. We haven't won any games by playing pretty football but when have we ever won any games playing decent football in this league? We gave 'pretty' football a chance and sacked it off after 4 games. You go from Pulis to Pards to Allardyce to Roy - all play fairly similar conservative style football (some more than others). Roy has just out-performed all the others in my opinion. In terms of saying teams have worked us out, it's easy - don't let Wilfried Zaha into the penalty area and they won't score.

Believe me, I am as bored of watching this football as the next guy but until someone can name a decent replacement to Roy, that is available to this club, then why would we sack the manager?
