Having seen our new recruits play after their first two to three games we were all divided over how well they were doing ...now imagine being a scout and watching them play you'd too be a little excited and a little bit concerned at the same time so what would you do? I remember at Chelsea Sorloth scoring a great goal but for it to be I think offsided by someone else even now fans want Meyer to be given more time to show what he can do because even I admit he has looked promising at times, very similar to Bannan, We can only scout and look at young promising players who are not actually playing in this very competitive league because we simply cannot afford to buy them and why would they want to come to us unless they have flaws that need ironing out which instantly makes them a gamble doesn't it, players that are able to perform in this league are only attracted to us through loans or older age because we can only sensibly achieve above middle status Wolves and Everton on a lucky day...new young exciting players sometimes work out and only then it's for a very short period ....AWB! ..if Moyes hadn't taken over from Ferguson I'm pretty sure Zaha would've been a hit there.

And recent arrivals in these categories have done well for us as has been noted earlier. Kouyate, Tomkins, Cahill, Ayew, McCarthy and (from overseas) Guaita have been solid performers for us.

Whilst we will probably try to recruit good young players from lower and/or foreign leagues this summer, I can well see DF et al identifying other more mature players with proven Prem league experience to replace our existing ones as their performance falls off which it inevitably will in the coming few years.

We are still in the process of establishing ourselves as a premier league club. Given our handicaps of a small ageing ground, current high wages, second class academy etc., it will be a slow process. I think we can get there but it will be touch and go, but then we are Crystal Palace and it's never easy.

In an article in The Guardian saying how much Lampard needs to do to get Chelsea up to late stages Champions League standard I noticed this sentence:

"A centre-back capable of educating young players such as Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori would not go amiss.

This is of course a perfect description of Cahill. How lucky were we to get him and how stupid were Chelsea to release him.

Of course Cahill is class but we are relatively blessed in that area of the park. And unlike Chelsea we don’t appear to have young CBs getting close to the 1st team. In a couple of years time we’ll have an even more aged and injury-prone back line.

Loans for players over say 28 ish would be the way to go.
Decent salary and bonuses.
If they then want to move on so be it.
Just replace with the same quality year on year.
That way younger players can be permanent as needed and experience on loan as required.

I thought the same thing about Theo Walcott would have been finally able to learn his role properly under the tutelage of an established forward like Aubameyang if he had stayed at Arsenal.

Realised Walcott is about 3 months older than Aubameyang, which makes me feel much older in turn.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I'm afraid Walcott will be considered a nearly man someone who never quite lived up to his early potential. A shame for him and England.

Every time I see that name I cannot avoid to think at that shocking decision to bring him to 2006WC by Eriksson knowing that Owen would be injured.
He had so much faith in playing him that he played a midfielder instead. Really I still wonder today what on earth could have passed in the manager's mind.

Are we really? Every season we seem to struggle to find a fit central defender at some stage in the season and even now we have Sakho, Kelly and Tomkins out injured

Is he injured?

I thought he was just left out for Dann vs Newcastle?

Unless he has tweaked it in training then you are correct, he is fit to play again now, although possibly not match fit hence why he was left out in favour of Dann. Sakho is back training full time now as well.

It's a position where you get a lot of injuries - every club has it.
