Like most people I am sceptical about the government's strategy but willing to accept it because of the uniformity of opinion coming frome senior medial experts ( I don't mean your local GP who is not an expert on containing viruses).

So far the only dissenting voices I have heard are from Farage and Hunt who are politicians. When senior experts start challenging the strategy that is the time to start thinking of conspiracy theories.

I don't think any PM wants to be known as the modern Nero, if Boris gets this wrong he is toast at the next GE which is why he is listening to the experts so he can blame them later.

So far the Labour Party are also towing the line.

Yeah, do get your point. Find it weird that our experts are saying different things to other countries' experts though.

It does appear a bit fatalistic when you hear experts talking about 'timing' for different events and 'herd immunity' for the population.

China and other countries have been far more drastic.

I have to admit, when I hear the phrase 'herd immunity' it doesn't feel me with much confidence that we have the best strategy.

Not one to buy into conspiracy theories but there's mileage in the government being fine with a lot of the elderly dying off because of this.

The way I see it, the Government has decided to 'sacrifice' some older people in favour of the country developing immunity, possibly in advance of a more extreme form of the virus.

It does appear we aren't as intent as other countries on slowing the virus but probably there is an inevitability. I myself have wondered whether I should try to catch the virus now, before it gets nastier and hospitals fill up. Maybe not as we should get better at managing the disease over time.

It is also a by-product that if 20% of their DB pensioners die, some of our big companies that have struggled with the weight of pension schemes will be freed up to invest money elsewhere and the Government will also benefit from less old age pension to pay. Must be a factor.

Agreed, along with the assets of those elderly.
The mother-in-law (76yrs old with dementia) is sitting in a property worth around £500k, her neighbour (90yrs old with dementia) is similar and our aunty Betty (90+yrs old with slight dementia) also has around £500k in value so a total between three little old ladies of around £1.5mil.
In effect, this 'money' is currently out of the system.

While I'm taking this situation seriously and have taken several safeguarding actions I do expect vaccines to be available before we have to concern ourselves with more deadly versions.

Well, hopefully anyway.....but if not and we are for the roses....then at least drag queen story hour will be coming to an end as well.

Yup I think history will have to tell us who was right.

At the moment Italy is really struggling as it exploded I assume that our strategy is to avoid that scenario and drag it out.

And DONE.

They had to cancel the games. Only logical thing to do. Saturday mornings (for me) going to stink.
