Interesting points about the finances.

I'm pretty sure that Euro 2020 will be delayed a year and the domestic league season will be extend.

Rightly or wrongly, Sky, BT and others are likely to try and delay payments to the leagues if they cant show games. You can bet they have lawyers going through contracts right now to find ways they don't have to pay.

Delayed payments and no matchday revenue is really going to impact the ability of staff to play players and staff.

That's going to be really bad for the minimum wage match day staff who will be forgotten about, but you wonder what the impact on clubs will be when you have to pay out millions a week with no income and probably no insurance.

Good points and of course the further down the leagues you go the more important match day revenues become.

Some people are already calling for taxpayers money to support football I doubt the government will be sympathetic considering the billions swirling around football will need to fix it's own problems.

All sorts of scenarios playing out in my mind beyond how the football season is finished.

Tv might start to see the value of fans when viewing figures for matches in empty stadiums drop. Just might.

Just imagine if clubs don’t pay their secured creditors they have to pay by uk financial law (multi millionaire footballers) and the players take the clubs to court. Good luck with that if still at the club with zero sympathy from fans of the clubs. High levels of abuse more like. Will fans elsewhere give them abuse for their greed if they’ve moved to another club in England when they start proceedings or pursue it when it’s all settled or retired?

The effects of this in football finance are going to be issues for a few years after this summer.

Handled badly this could start an implosion of football a lot of said would or hoped happened but couldn’t see how or this or happening so fast.

No millionaires will go broke but there are rules and laws, but then a lot of people could really struggle financially and open their eyes to what we’ve done to football.

Pass the popcorn. I’m not fussed. There’s a lot I dislike about modern football.

A lot of player contracts expire at midnight on the last day of the season and the transfer window opens on May 18th.

Another couple of factors to throw into the mix if they consider trying to extend the season.

Players aren't secured creditors as only companies or people that have a charge over the company's assets are secured ie banks and finance companies.

We have to hope that any hiatus won't affect Manchester United's ability to pay us the remaining £25m that they owe us for AWB

With 9-10 prem games remaining, there only needs to be two games a week and the season would be over in 4 weeks from the first kick-off day of the resumption. I expect that to happen. Apparently, the football authorities are thinking of finishing the season's fixtures between July and September.
I will be surprised if the full league season is not completed at some point. The potential litigation problems otherwise don't bear thinking about. if anything has to go it will be the FA Cup, the European cup competitions with the Euro 2020 being postponed for a year.

Predictably Karen Brady has said that the season should be cancelled thus offering West ham a lifeline.

Other variations I have heard are:

1. End the season now all results stand as they are promote and relegate based on that. probably the harshest but fairest solution. The problem is that clubs will point out that the rules have changed intra season.

2. Complete the season which will over run into September this is very fair but maybe impractical.

Then shorten next season to catch up by cancelling FA and League cups and somehow reduce the number of games teams play. Something like everybody plays each other once and then there are mini leagues e.g. top group play each other once, middle and bottom or some variation.

If they can find a solution to reducing the fixture list the advantage of this is that everybody goes into the season knowing what the rules are at the start.

I think this is the best solution. Unfortunately smaller clubs will lose out on potential cup income. I think LC will be cancelled (could be the last we see of it, unfortunately), FA cup still played but no replays. More mid-week games and mid-season break cancelled.

Yep that's how it'll be I reckon. Maybe with FA cup shunted to the end like a mini tournament as the priority will be to finish the league asap. Thank God we're in a relatively safe position without any of this likely to affect our final league position. Financially though I guess this will have a massive impact on clubs and so many bizarre connotations.

I.e if the season does take until July/ August to complete can clubs still play out of contract players?

I think they will have to allow this, in this unusual circumstance authorities have got to give some leeway

Paul Barber just stated he thinks relegation should be scrapped this season (wonder why!) but we should promote the top 2 from the Championship. Then relegate 4 teams next season.
He was asked about the teams in the play off places "I feel for them but..." in other words tough s***. Wonder what his view would have been if Brighton was one of those clubs?
PL are obviously desperate to get Leeds up

I just dont see with the virus expected to go on for months how the season will be completed .

I think someone mentioned earlier that this season will be declared null and void and I would agree with that.

You cant promote and relegate teams on incomplete seasons ,they will be (the relegated ones and those who missed out on promotion)queuing up in the courts demanding damages to their business that will run into billions.Even sides with little chance will say they were denied the chance

The season cannot be extended . What about players contracts ,some that run out in the summer which will weaken some sides and strengthen others .What about loan contracts ,for the same reason some sides will find their squads depleted and robbed of key performers .
In the end it will depend on how long the disruption lasts and for me the option with the least disruption to future seasons will be to let this one slide into the memories as the one that didn't count .
