This is a virus that preys on the old and/or those with weak immune systems.

I think we need a national programme to protect them and closing everything down can be justified until that is put in place.

However, outside of that my position has altered.....There is zero reason for well and healthy people to not be working if they aren't in touch with the at risk demographic.

so self isolating workers who would normally buy a tuna and mayo sarni for lunch are now making it at home hence the shortage, aha, I see, tuna tins would undoubtedly be a staple at a time like this, so maybe it's not all tuna and mayo, interesting, we're not that big on potato salad in this country nor cole slaw, no I am still unsatisfied by your logic, self isolation on a grand scale would surely mean less sandwiches not more and hence more mayonnaise

Isolation on a grand scale may or may not result in more sandwiches but it’ll mean

1) sandwiches aren’t bought outside the home so some will be made at home, and,

2) it doesn’t take much for a few cases of mayonnaise to be sold out, including for sandwiches at home, especially when a lot of people have been stockpiling and probably buy three of lots of things just because.

Caterers and eating places don’t get through one jar a day anyway. More like loads of the stuff.

I hope that clears your confusion.

Incidentally I wonder what’s happening to the perishing catering food. To the homeless or in the bin?

Completely agree and they’re probably going to have to lead the way worldwide by putting this into practice.

The alternative is to completely fvck ourselves over financially, which will consequently burden everyone with debt, a longer recovery, poorer job and life prospects and prosperity, longer term health service issues and poor national health, poorer living standards etc etc etc.

They can be bold and do it using the experts knowledge it appears only we are doing among richer Western Europe. They just have to do it at the right time.

We might struggle to get trade from outside but it can be better than this and from a national interest, it would be good to get a head start for a change.

Yep, lets hope that this thinking is also coursing through Downing Street.

I agree with you if those assumptions are correct but the some of the information (e.g. coming out of the US today) suggests that it's significantly dangerous to younger people. There is so much fake news it's very difficult to understand exactly where we are.

good point on the high turn over rate and low shelf life of mayo, only takes a bit more demand to deplete stocks exponentially - like to see Mayo sales on some sort of graph, hopefully we've peaked but we may still be in the delay phase where Mayonnaise is concerned - did manage to get a couple of jars today, so there you go I'm now part of the problem

More testing is what’s needed here. There could be a lot of people wandering around, having bought mayo but not yet displaying any signs. I think these are what they are calling super spreaders.
