I predict that with the government help measures for employed and self employed they will see a tsunami of fraudulent claims that will dwarf the Grenfall tower cheats. I fully expect that some of these overseas fraud colleges are working out how they can game the system already. Anyway good luck to the honest people I hope you get yours okay.

I can understand why the Chancellor said that self employed grants would be averaged out over the last three year's income as per their tax returns but I don't understand why he extended the deadline from two months ago to the end of April

The right to claim and the amount will be based on previous tax returns, even for self employed, so the chances of scamming will be slim.

You get the feeling with the volume of claims that there might be a level where they don’t even bother checking. Once a scammer knows that monetary level from a letter they stick to below that amount.

A sole trader should always have a reserve if they can rather than blow it all, and good luck with selling assets in these times. A tradesman I know who has his accountant avoid maximum taxes for him always has a reserve for if he gets an audit and they want 6 year’s worth back. I wonder how the people are doing who don’t keep their tax money in the bank. Could be a nervous year before payment is due in April 2021 if work is scarce.

I was a manager for a top ten firm and hated the office life and the way it was becoming about 15 years ago so took a income cut to try and get a better style of life. It suits me, but it doesn't everyone. Take two weeks holiday, there is no earnings. I've been knocked a few times and people seem to think they can phone you when they want, 10.30 in the evening, even on a Sunday sometimes. Those self-employed who have fiddled their income down will now pay the price for it, as it will be based on what they declared. Personally, I will probably end up getting nothing. Profits are just under the £50k. It is just me on my own. Any financial hit I take will probably be delayed. Clients not being able to pay, going out of business. By that time any hand out will be gone. The self-employed will be paying the price for this for a long time. And I guess many employed will as well.

You admit that you chose to be self employed because you didnt like being told what to do basically. That's fair enough and many self employed choose this route. Fundimentaly I would be so bold as to say a very large amount of sole traders cook their books even under your nose. Do you think that's a fairly true statement. Not telling you personally all the cash they earned and pocketed along with receipts for loads of stuff.
