In Portillo's Edwardian railway journey, the whole world is reassuringly middle England (on now). Even when he's in Wales. No pandemic here.

Braveheart is terrible but great fun. From what you have said - 'All Quiet on the Western Front' is brilliant. They remastered the original recently, you might be able to find that. So ahead of its time - made in inter-war Germany. No Ernest Borgnine.
You must know Kubrick's early 'Paths of Glory' with Kirk Douglas. If you don't,drop everything and watch it now. Or watch it sometime in the next couple of weeks, months or whatever.

Typical though at the end
It's always a bird that takes everything you've got

How do people feel the BBC is doing in this crisis?

Are you all just as cynical as ever?

I think it is showing just how valuable a national asset it is. Keeping us informed without spin, calmly and objectively.

I don't see them as any better at disseminating news than Sky.

I switched on the news at midday and the first and main item was that the Prime Minister had tested positive and claimed to be exhibiting mild symptoms but thanks to the marvels of modern technology would continue to be in touch with all of his colleagues whilst in self isolation.

The PM had made a short video explaining the whats, whys and wherefores.

All of this took us up to 12:20 whereupon the news reader asked Laura Kuenssberg to explain how the news of the PMs diagnosis was broken to her and after that Boris's official biographer came on the phone to add absolutely nothing because she didn't have access to his medical records.

At 12:40 I started to lose the will to live so switched off

His opinion is as valuable as nothing.
I do hope he isnt angling to extend the vote date for a new leader. Wouldn't surprise me ,even more now half the cabinet might have C19.
Might feel he can form a party while the conservatives are on their arse.
Low life t*** sitting on 7 million quid. Havent seen his donation yet, must have missed it.

I haven't watched the news in many a year. A quick glance at some of the websites is enough. It's not just the BBC but all the channels that have extensive news coverage are the same rinse and repeat every 15 minutes.

A couple of months ago the major news item almost every day was yet another young person being stabbed to death but this has now totally disappeared from the news.

Have the gangs taken up social distancing and staying at home or have the BBC just moved on to something else as a daily stabbing will pale into insignificance compared with hundreds of people dying of a virus daily.

BBC unveils plans for home education

[Link]

Pre the virus this is something I have repeatedly pointed out that the BBC has been failing to do. Part of it's charter responsibility is education something it has shamefully neglected over the last few decades.

Well if they want taxpayers money they need to do this on a regular basis with a dedicated channel e.g. BBC ED.

So thumbs up for doing it now but I want to see long term plans.

could be argued that there is a duplication of effort here..Schools already have online learning during the corona crisis and has been ramped up. (I have a family member ringing the kids weekly to see if they are getting on with it..) Kids are set lessons and home learning...now they are supposed to do this as well?
