Seeing it was so predictable which countries were prepared for it?

We were strong in terms of our ability to respond rapidly but quite weak in terms of an existing robust health system, below Thailand for example.

We are also a highly vulnerable country in terms of exposure to biological threats.

We have one fifth of the number of critical care beds per head of population than Germany for example but the ratio was far better 10 years ago.

ME, targets are missed on specifics like cancer and serious conditions but not in a huge way. There are only so many patients a budget will allow. It's not all about health I'm afraid. Schools, roads, infrastructure, social care etc etc etc. The list of governmental spending goes on and on.
As for A and E this C19 issue has probably cut down the time wasters, the regular visitors to hospitals because little Johnny banged his finger or beth banged her foot or generally I'm drunk and dont feel well ad infinitum.
What I asked danh and i will ask you when did you last visit a hospital or need an ambulance or the police directly for you or yours. Danh hasnt responded but what was your experience like at the nhs apart from waiting times which tbh will differ at certain times of day or night and days of the week anyhow. Waste isnt just from within organisations, us as users also waste the resources of people and materials.

That is one incident it doesn't excuse the lack of preparation. Other countries have better plans no one has it correct but I think in Europe Germany certainly has the testing issue under control.

It has been reported that Germany developed a diagnostic test,to see if someone currently has the virus,a month before the UK did.

It has also been reported that it had advantages such as more laboratories and a larger manufacturing industry.

I suspect that all countries will reflect on their approach and response to Covid-19 to determine what lessons can be learnt.

Prior to the virus outbreak if I wanted an appointment with my GP I had to book up a month in advance which probably accounts for many of the unnecessary A&E visits.

I dread to think what the waiting time is like now and as my surgery is only doing telephone appointments I'm not sure how much use they would be anyway

More testing maybe but they have hit 1000 dead so doesnt prevent that. I think they will catch us up so test test test makes no difference by the looks of it. Social distancing is the only way atm to stop this. Sweden will see a huge rise soon I'm sure but liberty not affected. Might be the wrong choice farther on for them.

Matt Hancock said all this the other day in the 5pm session. We have the scientists and labs but not the production (companies) that Germany has.

It’s all still a Sh1t show. I took it as him giving reasons rather than excuses but not all will.

Currently 20% of total tax revenue goes to the NHS. A prescription costs £9.15. It costs to have an eye test or go to the dentist. How much more should be spent on the “free” NHS?

Your last line.
If you are that ill then go to A and E, that's always the case. There is an argument that allowing the body to heal itself is better anyway. You have to admit though that many docs appointments are from people who probably dont need to see them.

You think?

Or maybe look at the data instead

Compare Germany's CFR with that of other countries.

Also, Germany has less than a third of the 'attack rate' of the UK. Doing something right it seems

And only 1 in 5 pay for prescriptions any way. A large amount is for old people who are being given multiple drugs to counter one that doesnt agree with them. I wonder if as many people would notice if they were given placebos. A lot is mind over matter. The body is an amazing evolved bit of kit really.

I was chatting to a friend of mine in Kefalonia last week. The island had been in lockdown for a couple of weeks and had no reported cases of corona virus until a couple of days before when a Swede arrived complete with infection.

I haven't spoken to her since so don't know how many others he managed to infect
