Does any kind soul recall the 6-0 demolition of Norwich at Selhurst Park in I believe 1968 ?. Danny Light (Now sadly deceased) was one of the scorers as was Tommy Vansittart who got a brace - not bad for a defender!
Vansittart must be in his 70s now.

I remember that game because it was my first ever Palace game!

the reason we lost the replay final, the players thought they knew better than sir steve.

I always felt that as underdogs we had one chance of beating United and that a replay would favour the better quality team. Same thing happened to Brighton.

We played magnificently in the first game and were 7 minutes from wining it until THC scored the equaliser. As for the replay United were the better side but they never demolished us.

I have Millwall mates I would have been embarrassed with their 4-0 defeat I'm not sure they even had a shot on goal. At least the lads made it a memorable day out and one of the best FA cup finals. 30 years later we can still talk about it, if only....

How do you mean? I just remember us kicking them rather than playing football. We probably should’ve played Ian Wright for longer, but we had a stonewall first half penalty not given because back in those days refs had their own interpretation of what’s a penalty, especially with big club bias. According to that ref it’s not a penalty if Geoff Thomas is running towards the touchline as he gets blatantly tripped in the area. (I’ve never been more gutted by a football result)

Reminds me of Liverpool right back Rob Jones sliding on his knees for no apparent reasons in the early ‘90s at the end of a league cup match late in the competition. Of course the ref was ready to oblige and give the big club and home fans the result they wanted.

Just seen an Everton goal disallowed at 3-2 down vs Liverpool in a 1977 semi final at Maine Road. Didn’t look like offside to me although there was no replay of side angles and no appealing in the face of the ref.

Saw the 3-4 loss against Wolves the other day in the Mullery days. Budgie was in goal for them but also a little suprised to see John Humphrey playing for them as well. Played about 150 for them and 200 for the Clowns and 160 for us, scoring 8 goals. One of which was a 4-3 win against Wimbledon which I had the pleasure of going to. That would be a good game to rewatch. COYP !!

I have a vague memory of going to a home game against Middlesbrough with Peter Nicholas scoring the only goal with a penalty at the Holmesdale End after we had a man, or maybe two sent off.

Perhaps after all these years that have passed, my memory is playing tricks with me!

I remember that one. Just looked it up, 4th Feb 1984, talk about low attendances: 5,819. Can't find a report or teams. I think Vince was sent off early and I do vaguely recall it was two sent off in total.

Ditto, Rudi. Fact: I’ve never gotten over it!

What made the “no penalty” decision infinitely worse was Jimmy Hill in the punditry agreeing that there’s no way you can give a penalty when the player who is fouled is moving away from the goal and therefore heading out of the area. Like he and Alan Gunn had just invented a new law of the game. I was fecking furious.

Always thought Jimmy Hill was a complete idiot with some of the comments he made. I remember a televised England game years ago, the ball was dropping right under the bar, the keeper and Bob Latchford were shoving each other looking up waiting for the ball, as the keeper jumped and caught the ball Latchford elbowed the keeper in the face, not surprisingly the keeper dropped the ball over the line. The ref disallowed the goal and gave a free kick. Jimmy hill replied how can you foul someone when you’re not looking at him, what a plonker.

Enjoyed watching the 2-4 win at Swindon in the dark days of admin in 2000. Even had to have weekly shirt sponsors, one being Steve Coppell's hairdresser !! Naturally a bits and bobs line up, some promising youngsters Carlisle, Mullins, Mckenzie and Smith, loanees Phelan and old guard Linigan. Stand out was Clinton, who looked a very cool finisher when given/made a chance. Sort of striker we miss now. Fair degree of pace as well across the team. Whilst we were in dire financial straits seems Swindon were even worse off judging by the commentary, with their manager, Jimmy Quinn donning the boots for a while.
