Forget? What sort of inventory management are they operating?

If you mean why aren't they better at it, that could be because much procurement is done at Trust level

Not just better at it but automated. Unless the person responsible can remember every run out rate, re-order level and lead time.

Yes, they must be thick hicks. Imagine still wanting to work and earn money in a country with limited welfare.

Seems logical to me a central procurement unit should bulk order items from an agreed standard list the trusts should then order from that unit.

Outside of the standard list there will be items that specialist hosptial / units require e.g. special types of gloves these could still be ordered by the trusts direct.

Spider-Man you really are a nice fella.

Many thanks but some who know me may disagree! Let me try to put this into perspective:
I have an 89 year old mother-in-law (I know) who has high blood pressure and diabetes. She is the only grandparent my kids have known, so am trying to keep her safe, which if you knew her is not easy.
My wife works for Border Force and is dealing with who knows what every day (and despite what one poster thinks) it is not easy to stay safe without any PPE.
I admit I am far from being the smartest poster on here but like to think I can put a point across without the need of being rude so normally when any poster patronises me or talks down to me I would get annoyed, at the moment absolutey not.
Do I believe a lot of the animosity towards each other on here is warranted...no although some do push it at times.
At the end of the day, hopefully, we are all Palace fans and pulling in the same direction regarding the future of the club I first saw in 1961.
Stay safe everyone ( apologies if any of the grammar or spelling is incorrect!)

Yeah, it's almost as though the world has never seen a virus before.....let alone worked through it.

While some white collar workers can hug their pearls for longer most people need to be out there working to feed their families....You just hope that the jobs are going to be there for them.

As for the affect this is going to have on the supply chains in the most vulnerable countries....I don't even want to think about it.

Reads a bit like a witch hunt to me. I've no doubt that in hindsight things could have been done differently but the Government have always claimed that they have acted on scientific advice from their own scientists.

All this rubbish about the Prime Minister "skipping" five cobra meetings is just political bulls***.

Cobra stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A and the early meetings in connection with a health pandemic were chaired by the Secretary of State for Health who surely was the most appropriate person for the job and no doubt the Prime Minister was kept fully briefed.

It would not be until March 2 — five weeks later — that Johnson would attend a Cobra meeting about the coronavirus. But by then it was almost certainly too late. The virus had sneaked into our airports, our trains, our workplaces and our homes. Britain was on course for one of the worst infections of the most insidious virus to have hit the world in a century.

The implication was that all of the recent deaths have been because the Prime Minister didn't attend some Cobra meetings which again is just political point scoring as was the bit later on about the Government being left rudderless when the PM contracted the virus himself.

I would be interested to see a similar hatchet job done on NHS Supply Chain discussing their gross inefficiency and internal frauds and why the latter have been kept covered up

Of course there is another type of fraud affecting the NHS. I know some on here won't want to hear it but it is foreign nationals utilising the NHS when they have no entitlement. I workd on the NHS fraud unit for several year so I do know what I am talking about.
Obviously if a foreign national is involved in an accident whilst on holiday they will be treated on the NHS (now I believe they may try to obtaing costs back).
The best/worst examples to use were women (mainly West African) who concealed the fact that they were heavily pregnant (not difficult when you know how) to travel to the UK. On arrival, if discovered, they would not be able to be removed as they were past the date an airline would accept them... therefore NHS. Then of course you had those suffering from aids related illnesses who travelled from countries who had not treatment. Did I blame them? Absolutely not but should the NHS pay? Absolutely not
Part of my job was to liaise with GPs/hospitals regarding the eligibility of people for NHS treatment, the number who refused to co-operate was staggering, why? I will leave that up to you to decide (but not Data Protection)

Looks like we are sleepwalking into another great depression. But this time we had a choice. I hope I'm entirely wrong. I remember well how poor we were at times in the past. Thought my kids would never have to live the way I had to but they could even face worse now.

That would leave the problem of being unable to critique aspects of the response. When mistakes, wilful or otherwise, are made we must surely debate them.

Totally agree but there are ways and means
