Funny how some regular posters don’t feel the need to comment

I will, I am not surprised especially since it was pointed out that the majority of members on the Electoral Commission had links to the EU / Remain side.

Funding of political campaigns and parties is a murky business but I agree with Aaron Banks (not my favourite person) he is investigated whilst no one says a word about Hungarian George Soros, that stunk.

We need reform starting with the Electoral Commission and then moving on to how parties are funded.

I said at the time I don't doubt that the Brexit campaign broke rules but so did the Remain camp only the press didn't seem to highlight it as much.

Yet another example of how inept our lords and masters are and that is putting it mildly if I was unkind I would say they were bias.

Turns out it wasn't "the Russians-wot-won-it" after all.

Every story this stupid woman touches ends up being flashed around the media in a desperate frenzy to explain away the clear collective insanity of leaving the EU.... and then ends up quietly retracted. Here's what Banks said, in late 2018, as the media were gleefully rubbing themselves silly over the prospect of a major Brexit donor being dragged through the mud:

“I am pleased that the Electoral Commission has referred me to the National Crime Agency. I am confident that a full and frank investigation will finally put an end to the ludicrous allegations levelled against me and my colleagues.

There is no evidence of any wrongdoing from the companies I own. I am a UK taxpayer and I have never received any foreign donations. The Electoral Commission has produced no evidence to the contrary.

The Electoral Commission has referred me to the National Crime Agency under intense political pressure from anti-Brexit supporters.

I am already in court with the Electoral Commission. In witness statements the commission has admitted it got its figures wrong in relation to a previous investigation and it even submitted its final report without taking evidence from us.

Isn’t it funny that none of the financial contributions made by George Soros to British political campaigns are ever subject to any level of scrutiny by the Electoral Commission despite his being a foreign national.”

I hope she's sued to oblivion. Notice any of the news media outlets reporting this?

Me neither.

Go easy on the cats, Carole. It's not their fault.

I am not paying much attention to this thread at the moment, and won't get involved too much now, as there are much bigger things to be dealt with.

I assume you are referring to Carole Cadwalladr, who is one of the most rigorous and well informed political journalists working today. You dismiss her all you wish but she has good contacts and knows what she is talking about.

Anyone who thinks that Banks doesn't have some very dirty fingers and a dubious record is fooling themselves. He might have slipped through the noose this time but his connections with the Russians and use of Cambridge Analytica to sway swing voters through social media is pretty well undeniable. Farage is also involved.

My understanding is that the report by our intelligence services into the Russian interference in the 2016 election, which was suppressed prior to the last election, even though it had been released by the select committee, will eventually get published. When it does I think Mr Banks will make sure he is not in the country but somewhere without an extradition treaty with us.

Why on earth George Soros is mentioned as though what he did has any kind of equivalence beats me. His foundations help fund, often in very minor ways, organisations that promote ideals that he approves of. They make no secret of that but they play no role in the organisations they support. Banks was up to his neck in the Leave.EU campaign.

Time will tell. Just be patient.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Actually I was pretty late as I hadn't been following the thread so any Director would be bitching at me for not getting my timing right.

Nevertheless always glad to bring a smile.

"Why George Soros is mentioned"

1. Not by me.
2. Oh, let's see....
..."Mythical Russians funding political outcomes in the country: BAD"
..."Real Hungarians with a history of subverting, ocercing and influencing governments (but all in a "good way", because you AGREE with his politics): GOOD"

You people are a parody of yourselves. No. Codswallop is not a revered, serious journalist. She is the living, breathing personification of confimation bias grasped onto, desperately, by idiots that wish, pray, beg for her bulls*** "conspiratorial connections" to bear any reality at all. To somehow explain away how we were all duped, how it was the evil Russians that led us astray. She reports with zero balance, with zero interest in the misdeeds of those she shares a political opinion with, even if they are as guilty as those she "investigates". She fires off tripe and hearsay that is then speedily retracted on page 57 of the Grauniad, only after her sensationalist bulls*** has worked AC Grayling and his Wisbechian acolytes into a Remainiac lather. Her spidery-web of 'friends-of-friends' accusation-by-association, when applied to the stupid woman herself actually has her working for Trump. No, we know she's not working for Trump, but applying the exact same logic, that's where we get to. Madness.

I hope Banks takes her f***ing house. Just as would have happened to Darren Grimes' mother, had justice not finally prevailed. Leave her with nothing but her cats.

No f*** it. Take those too.

Amazes me this thread is still going.

Also you give far too much credit to the general population. You should rethink that assumption.

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

That was me Soros is a non UK citizen who once tried to wreck our economy for his own personal gain and is openly pro EU and has funded various groups during the Brexit campaign.

I made the point that political funding is a murky business and has been for a very long time. I don't know if Soros has done anything illegal I just find it crazy that some people complain about foreign interference in support of Brexit and yet ignore Soros' support for the other side. What is a foreign national doing interfering in an internal UK political decision.

Back to the Electoral Commission they help set the rules and will have their own lawyers this case got thrown out which makes you wonder about the competence of the Commission and their advisors. Their response so far is to complain that because they lost the rules should be changed rather than to launch an investigation into what went wrong.

I have no doubt that the funding rules should be rewritten we have seen multiple examples over the last few years of politicians abusing them, I am not convinced the Electoral Commission in it's current form is the one to do that. Physician heal thy self.

You go on believing that the interference by the Russians was mythical if you wish. It isn't what our own, and US, security services know. It happened and is still happening. Maybe when the report is published you will believe. Somehow I doubt it though.

Soros is a force for good. In my opinion of course. The difference is that he, or rather his arm length foundations, are open about providing what is often seed funding. They don't hide behind internet trolls spreading misinformation. I didn't like the way he made his money but I approve of the way he spends a tiny part of it. Fighting populist nationalism and supporting democracy gets a thumbs up from me.

I am so glad that Carole Cadwalladr has got under your skin so effectively. It's a joy to read your vitriol. I sincerely hope she continues to upset you just as effectively in the coming months and years. More power to her elbow and the contacts she has within the security forces and civil service. It lets the forces of evil know that they are being watched.
