Back in the 90s the Stranglers were the Palace match day sponsors one game.

Don’t remember many punk/new wave people expressing much interest in football or maybe the music press weren’t interested enough to ask them. Lydon mentioned Arsenal, Matlock & Mick Jones are QPR fans, but it seemed to become more of an issue after Italia 90 / Fever Pitch.

The Stranglers sponsored the match ball for the opening game of the 92/93 season, against Blackburn. The match famous for Shearer scoring twice on his debut for them, but I think it was just for publicity purposes, and not because any of them were supporters.

Yes, very Gothic (in the true meaning of the word) as is the fabulous cover art of the LP.

The house where the album cover photo was taken was The Old Knoll in Blackheath. It was also used for the Bob Hoskins film Mona Lisa, and some old Boris Karloff movies.

Their first two albums were classics but they lost their way a bit while trying to explore a different direction.

Black and White is a weird totally uncommercial album listening to it now but I did get a copy with the free white vinyl sing back in the day featuring 'Tits'.

He went to Stanley Technical College in South Norwood, and bragged about it on a BBC Arena documentary on punk.
