I am not swayed by party politics, I just think the system is inherently flawed. (that doesn't make me a communist, either)

What I would like to see is more accountability from MP's and politicians.
They voted themselves an over-inflation payrise in March 2020, with considerable additional office expenses.

Just for starters, I would suggest.

* MP's be put on time-sheets so the electorate know how much time they are spending on constituency or parliamentary work.

* Disclosure of fees paid to 'Scientific Advisors', ..or in fact any of the various 'Advisors'.

You can't believe anything these days. Especially on an internet football forum.

Who who have thought thought, people telling lies on social media ? or in politics.

They could start with a proper job description after all the rest of us have one something like:

- Minimum number of hours doing constituency work
- Minimum number of hours doing Parliamentary work
- Minimum number of constituency meetings
- They should provide a quarterly update to their constituents what they achieved in the last quarter and what they expect to achieve in the next quarter.

The rest of us have a proper job description against which we are assessed and paid accordingly. I don't see why this doesn't apply to them as well.

One thing that bothers me is lies in the manifesto. Some are downright fabricated just to get votes.

I think I've said it before but how about they are only allowed to put measured and timed actual targets into the manifesto? - making it a real document.

Then, when after 12 months what was promised is not delivered - a new election. As someone else said, we have measured things to do, targets to meet, and if we don't do it - we soon hear about it, or even just get the boot.

The other thing that Westminster needs is some kind of proportional representation, so that the number of votes a party gets - would give them some representation. Mathematically: it is possible in the current system to get the most votes overall but actually have no seats at all! Seems mad, but if you finished second in most constituencies - that is exactly what could happen. As a caveat to that, the seats generally mirror the amount of votes; but this scenario could change in the current political climes.

There was the Labour pledge last year, it was to the women born in the 50's who lost a when the retirement ages shifted for state pension - and that was after the manifesto was issued.

85k plus expenses and every forum thinks they can do more hours and a better job. I wouldn't want the permanent abuse ,whichever colour flag you fly.
You do know 200k isnt really a bundle. For me and you guys maybe but the bigger picture is it isnt a lot for the responsibility and more serious accountability they have. Shove it, i will stick to my salary and struggle through without looking over mine or my whole families shoulder 24/7.

So MPs are just like footballers then. They keep their job for a fixed period no matter how crap they are.

There are a few on this forum that seem to think that they would do a better job with one in particular knowing far more than anyone in government, science or medicine judging by his comments.

How do you judge if an MP is doing a good job when they don't have a detailed job description. I'm not saying I could do a better job but it would be nice if we could benchmark them against some form of a standard after all we are their employers.

They don’t do it for the money. They do it for the power and their ego. A handful do it because they want to serve the public.

You cant benchmark success when the public are your accountability. There is always one idiot.
