Our solar system is huge, and our galaxy (as much as we know, is mahoosive). It would seem implausible for aliens to make such regular trips to Earth, travelling huge distances, not to make themselves 'known'. A lot of UFO sightings have been recorded from witnesses after leaving a pub. A bit like the Loch Ness monster. Which kind of impacts credibility a bit.

However, two hundred years ago it seemed implausible that we could create a photograph. There are huge gaps remaining in our understanding of nature. If we are allowed the passage of time to continue upon scientific discovery who knows what's around the corner. A lot of UFO sightings are no doubt false. However, there is plenty of evidence from respected and trusted sources. That doesn't mean we have proof that UFOs are aliens but it does mean that there is a case for them. I often wonder about so called alien abductions. Blokes gets chatty with a lady in a bar gets drunk ends up at her place next day he has to explain this to his wife? There was a very good documentary made by a geologist debunking most UFO myth's. He wasn't anti UFO just came up with plausible scientific explanations for the major themes. It certainly made me think for instance: He's area of expertise was earthquakes he noticed by reviewing data and the media that ball lightening was a precursor to many earth tremors. He then noticed then around the same time the number of UFO sighting and alien encounters went up considerably which is how he got interested in UFOs. Well ball lightning could explain UFO sightings but what about alien abductions. He interviewed a number of abductees who had similar stories they were driving along in a secluded road saw a bright light the car stopped electronics went haywire and then they passed out and woke up later their watches were off etc. The abductees only remembered the abduction part under hypnosis he concluded that these recovered memories were false as the hypnotherapists had an interest in UFOs and so intentionally or unintentionally contaminated the memories. He actually sent a fake student to one of them and secretly taped it the fake never said he saw an alien but the therapist suggested to the fake what he had seen. Retrieving memories under hypnosis is now largely discredited by the medical profession. Okay so maybe the abductee misunderstood what they saw but what about the car breaking down and everything going haywire and the abductees saying they felt a presence before the hypnosis. Well a ball of lightning will play havoc with electronics in fact the US military has experimented with an electromagnetic weapon designed to disabled a car in a police pursuit. So what about the feeling of being watched. He left some students in a dark room and passed a low voltage current through their head. Even though they knew they were alone they all reported a sinister presence and feeling scared now imagine if you were on your own on a dark road in the middle of nowhere and your car was going crazy. Anyway I found this program very plausible and probably explains a lot of the so called alien sightings although not all.

I had alien like balls of lightening all the way through my twenties. Close encounters of the third kind doesn't come close.

I think your post perfectly represents the kind of attitude that prevails regarding this subject. It makes assumptions that cannot be assumed and compares apples to oranges. On this subject, I think you just have to look at the available evidence in the proper context, try to resist preconceptions, and be prepared to accept that our current knowledge of the Universe could well be insufficient to understand the potential for just about anything outside of our normal realm. I often think about what we would do if we were capable of interstellar travel and had a load of other 'magical' technology at our disposal. Churchill had the incidences of 'foo fighters' locked away for 50 years because he thought that public knowledge of possible otherwordly beings could undermine religion and destroy society.

I have never watched The History channel. Whatever views i may submit to an internet forum, are totally baseless, as my qualifications/experiences are worthless. UFO's are a distraction from reality.
