The Kung flu is so last month.

Or India. 8000 deaths, 1.4 billion pop. It could depend on how the figures are calculated.

India is just getting started. 10k? Try 100k.

'India reported almost 10,000 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, with hospitals swamped in the worst-hit cities of Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai, and predictions that the infection rate will not peak before the end of next month.'

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

Numbers in the US are on the uptick too. For the first first in Trump's Presidency I find myself feeling slightly sorry for him. This is doing him no favours in the polls, but it's one of those situations where whatever plan or non plan there is looks like the wrong option on account of the magnitude of the problem at hand.

The stock market is taking another tumble due to this. Even in a best case scenario where people try to get their businesses up and running again, if the numbers carry on going up, it's going to screw things up once again. It's fast looking like the next 12 months are a right-off.

There comes a point and we are probably there where we have to get back to work as a nation and try and maintain the roi at 1 or just under. We can’t keep ignoring the financial side of this. Roi above 1 in certain areas would have to be locally managed but I’ve no idea over how this could be achieved.

You're right, the economy has taken a gigantic hit as it is. We simply can't afford a second lockdown. Numbers rising in a number of countries does make me feel that we've only had a taster of what's to come though. We may be seeing the start of the death toll rather than the end.

A recent study suggested that universal mask wearing while out in public could easily keep the r rate below 1, so that would be one answer to keep it manageable. It's still all rather depressing though, and I don't think the rest of this year will look at all normal even if we do keep calm and carry on.

Quote "Huge sums are being invested in Oxford University's vaccine - but there's no guarantee that it will work.

Globally, AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company partnering on the project, aims to produce two billion doses.

Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and France have signed a deal with the company, it was announced earlier. The US government has already made its own .2bn deal.

The German health minister, Jens Spahn, said Europe was behind other countries in securing vaccines. He said the latest move should benefit all EU citizens.

EU governments have given the European Commission a mandate to buy promising vaccines in advance - if the money is available."

Elevating that little issue of Coronavirus once again. Some good news..

Dexamethasone is a life-saving coronavirus drug [Link]

"A cheap and widely available drug called dexamethasone can help save the lives of patients who are seriously ill with coronavirus.

UK experts say the low-dose steroid treatment is major breakthrough in the fight against the deadly virus.

It cut the risk of death by a third for patients on ventilators. For those on oxygen, it cut deaths by a fifth.

The drug is part of the world's biggest trial testing existing treatments to see if they also work for coronavirus.

Researchers estimate that if the drug had been available in the UK from the start of the coronavirus pandemic up to 5,000 lives could have been saved. Because it is cheap, it could also be of huge benefit in poor countries struggling with high numbers of Covid-19 patients."

It's a very low cost readily available generic thankfully, so any company can manufacturer it. It'll only be used in very specific circumstances too, so hopefully no supply issues.

I take your point though. If anything other than an old off-patent drug proves to be successful in treating coronavirus, I would not expect big pharma to put peoples healthy above their bottom line.

WHO reporting a record world wide 24 hour increase in cases - 183,020.
It’s on Sky News but posting a link is beyond my meagre abilities.
